LNER "Compulsory Reservations" Preventing Sale of Super Off Peak Ticket

I’m absolutely 100% certain. You’ll find I’ve mentioned it many times on this forum over the years.

    EMR expanding penalty fares area

I don't know the position at Alsager but I believe EMR did some experiments with TVMs at St Pancras issuing tickets on plain white paper roll. At some point CCST will disappear completely, in some areas of the country it already effectively has and it's only clinging on in others because of the...

    EMR expanding penalty fares area

Times move on! Moving to barcode tickets gives greater visibility of ticket use. It isn’t just the railway that has moved to barcode tickets, airlines, theatre, sporting events etc to name but a few. I don’t think anyone would want European sized Elgar tickets - they were tried 25 years ago and...

    Can't book via Avanti

I don’t find Avanti’s website very user friendly. I’d use this forum’s site if it were me.

Usage of Thameslink to cross London when not specified as part of the itinerary?

Lancaster Gate is an official interchange station for cross-London journeys so you’re fine to enter or exit there. I do agree about Bank. It’s ludicrous that it’s not an official interchange station given its proximity to Canon Street.

    EMR expanding penalty fares area

It’s personal choice whether to print or show a barcode on a device. A couple of years ago I was making a journey to La Rochelle. I’d printed my Eurostar and TGV tickets out and stored them in my wallet. Unfortunately my wallet got stolen on the Paris Metro. Thankfully I was able to log into...

    EMR expanding penalty fares area

Agreed. Being able to fold a PRT ticket in half and it be credit card sized would be great, and very user friendly. I’m not familiar with the TVM at Alsager but I think EMR have some TVMs that print collected tickets on white till roll paper. As for what’s a normal ticket, yesterday I...

    EMR expanding penalty fares area

Personally speaking, I think we're getting close to the point where a ticket machine should be provided at every station and there should be a requirement to purchase a ticket before boarding, or obtain a promise to pay.

LNER "Compulsory Reservations" Preventing Sale of Super Off Peak Ticket

I do wonder how many people have been overcharged over the years? Stevenage is scheduled to become pick-up/set down only from December, I suspect this is for timetabling reasons but I really don't see how this can be enforced. Of course, LNER will lose a chunk of revenue on this which will end...

Usage of Thameslink to cross London when not specified as part of the itinerary?

Leaving one gateline and re-entering another is not a break of journey. Likewise leaving one Hammersmith station and re-entering the other across the road is not a break of journey, even though you’re temporarily ‘out of the system’.

Usage of Thameslink to cross London when not specified as part of the itinerary?

Good point. It’s things like the two Hammersmith stations. Not sure how many of them would be applicable to a cross-London journey.

LNER "Compulsory Reservations" Preventing Sale of Super Off Peak Ticket

No there isn’t. They will sell the more expensive Off peak and Anytime tickets though. Just not the super off peak.

LNER "Compulsory Reservations" Preventing Sale of Super Off Peak Ticket

So why can’t I buy a Stevenage to London Terminals Super Off Peak ticket (the weekend version) to travel on a LNER train. You’ve never been able to get them sold for travel on a LNER, even though they’re ’any permitted’. This has been the case since before compulsory reservations.

Usage of Thameslink to cross London when not specified as part of the itinerary?

OSIs only apply to journeyspAYG journeys made using contactless or Oyster. The concept of OSIs does not apply to cross-London transfers made using a through ticket with a Maltese Cross. The only requirement is the transfer across London must use an appropriate route between the relevant...

ADVICE ON AVOIDING PROSECUTION BY WMTRAIN FOR TRAVEL FRAUD

I would reply rather explaining that no railcard was held.

LNER "Compulsory Reservations" Preventing Sale of Super Off Peak Ticket

It’s not just mandatory reservations. Take a look at the weekend version of the Super Off Peak version of a Stevenage to London Terminals ticket. It’s routed Any Permitted but LNER have set something on this ticket preventing a reservation being made. The ticket is perfectly valid on LNER...

Advice for Elderly Relatives traveling the Bank Holiday Weekend

Given the strike action on CrossCountry I’d travel via London in both cases. Less impact with displaced XC customers, as XC don’t serve London. Generally speaking longer, more frequent trains from London. Of both parties did want to travel on the same day you could arrange the timings so they...

Breaking a journey with cycle reservation

To avoid confusion, I would make reservations that indicate exactly what you intend to do. So two reservations.

I’ve moved several posts about being unable to purchase super Off peak single tickets due to compulsory reservations into a separate thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/lner-compulsory-reservations-preventing-sale-of-super-off-peak-ticket.291160/
