Thameslink Core Major Power Failure 28/8/25

Where did the units that were north of the Thames at the time the incident occurred go? I remember it being widely reported on this forum, by someone apparently in a position to know, that when there was disruption in the core it would be 'simple' to send trains to Kings Cross and turn trains...

    Swapping from KeyGo to Oyster

I've switched from KeyGo to Oyster at Farringdon and Finsbury Park. It works ok - just remember to touch each card and you should be fine.

Thameslink Core Major Power Failure 28/8/25

Does anyone know why nothing ran through the core onto the GN side for the rest of the day?

Thameslink Core Major Power Failure 28/8/25

Apologies if there's a thread about this but I can't find one. There was a major power failure in the Blackfriars area around 14:00 today, nothing has run through the core to the GN side since 14:30. I was travelling from Finsbury Park to Stevenage around 22:00 this evening. I saw the detail...

16 year old son bought child ticket by mistake and has been issued a Penalty Fare

Exactly what tickets were purchased? If they were purchased online it's almost certain they would need to have been collected from a ticket office or machine before boarding because tickets for journeys on Merseyrail are not normally sold as etickets. Had the tickets been collected?

Advice on incoming GTR fare evasion investigation

The Regulation of the Railways Act 1889 is the legislation under which many railway fare evasion cases are prosecuted, so slightly predates the current Government.

GWR penalty fare for not holding a ticket for the full journey

Redirecting your post is a good idea but do you currently live with your parents? If so could, it's probably best if the letter goes there and get your parents to send it on to you by email or whatsapp.

Websites incorrectly applying Railcard discounts to additional travellers

In my experience large companies insust you use their corporate travel provider when booking business travel. The reasons for this are: - invoicing and cost centre charging is easier - reporting on who has booked what etc (at my former work my boss used to get an email when I booked anything!)...

Appeal - Didn't realise I had to print a ticket

This soinds like an unfortunate incident. The difficulty for train companies is that there are many examples of people collecting the ticket and giving it to a friend, and then the purchaser travels using the email confirmation saying they didn't realise they had to print off the ticket. I'm...

Usage of Thameslink to cross London when not specified as part of the itinerary?

I've just checked the list and can confirm that Bank is on it, as is Lancaster Gate. So you're fine to do a cross-London transfer from Bank to Lancaster Gate where it is an appropriate route between London Terminals.

First-timer's Take: What it's really like on the LNER Azuma

I've noticed that the seats on teh Azumas have started to suffer from 'metal bar syndrome'. Not quite as bad as the GWR version - yet, but the GWR 800s are older it won't be long before the Azumas become as bad....

Websites incorrectly applying Railcard discounts to additional travellers

You can still use the corporate travel website with your own railcard. That's what I used to do with previous employers.

Websites incorrectly applying Railcard discounts to additional travellers

I used my personal railcard, where appropriate, when undertaking business travel for my former employers. I also know that in certain siituations, the organisations would sometimes purchase railcards for employees where it would result in the business saving money on the cost of rail travel.

    GTR Short Fare Advice

I suggest a short, concise reply that mentions: - That you are sorry for what has happened - What you have learned from the incident - Ask if they will consider settling the matter without going to court - Offer to pay the outstanding fare and GTR's administrative costs in dealing with the...

    EMR expanding penalty fares area

Legally speaking you are required to possess a ticket before you board the train. You aren’t required to book online or use a smartphone to purchase a ticket, but you are required to use a working ticket machine (or open ticket office) to purchase a ticket for your journey. If ToD is not...

    Supermarkets discussion

It’s the profits from single use bags that has to be donated to charity. Single use is defined by the density of the polythene used in the bag. The bags retailers sell these days are generally made of denser polythene, meaning they’re not categorised as single use, so profit on them doesn’t...
