    Advice Southern Rail expired railcard

The letter reads well, a couple of minor amendments: I would say 'I have checked my online ticket purchasing history and believe I have made 16 return journeys between London and Gatwick Airport since May 2024'. I'd also take out the sentence about them doing the ir own investigation as it's...

    Split ticket - delay rights

To answer the substantial question, if @Seehof is delayed by Thameslink to the point that they miss their booked train to York they can catch the next LNER train to York (I'm assuming this is a LNER & Connections ticket). There is no need to purchase a new ticket. If the overall delay in...

Delay repay conundrum with 0915 RDG-BHM today on Cross Country Trains

You were making a journey from Reading to Liverpool Lime Street, arriving at 14:18. CrossCountry delayed you resulting in you arriving at Liverpool Lime Street at 16:00. You may use a combination of tickets to make a journey. Delay Repay applies to the journey not the individual tickets used...

    Essex Road lifts

Essex Road is one of my favourite stations for its utter decrepitness! I believe @edwin_m is correct that the lift depth is to do with ground conditions. But don't bother with the lifts, go through the doors that look as though you really shouldn't and use the spiral staircase to get the full...

    Expired Railcard Chiltern prosecution

The letter's generally ok but I'd try and shorten it a little. There's no need to send them screenshots so I'd take this out. No need to say you'll purchase from the Chiltern app either - IIRC their app does a similar splitsave thing! Take out the first reference to asking how you can pay the...

    Advice Southern Rail expired railcard

My normal advice is to answer the questions they've asked you. Unless they mention other occasions then there is no requirement for you to incriminate yourself.

    Invalid ticket (Railcard fraud)

Are you able to access post you sent via the false address? It is important that you receive and respond to Chiltern's letter. If you can't do this then I suggest you contact Chiltern Prosecutions Department (not customer services) to give them your correct details.

    Railcard boundaries in silly places

I agree but we are talking about the railway aided and abetted by RDG/DfT/The Treasury. To understand the direction of travel when it comes to fares, all you've got to do is look at what nationalised LNER has already done with their inflation busting, more restrictive fares reforms.

Avanti tickets using health service discount

Isn't this just the deal that's available through the Blue Light Card? You click the link on the Blue Light Card website/app to access these fares, I'm not aware that you can access them any other way but happy to be corrected.

    Touching in/out at Farringdon

Come to think about it you could be right, but the root cause of the issue was the standalone readers at Farringdon were not set to continuation exit (or they were set and the GTR RPI misinterpreted what continuation exit meant when they scanned the Oyster card).

    LNER Amex Deals

I wonder if East Coast Rewards would be a better loyalty scheme for LNER than credit card cash back?

East Croydon to Farringdon ticket for 10 year old

A child can travel with an Adult ticket and this is specifically ok for Groupsave purposes. WHen Gatwick Express was a separate TOC did they accept Groupsave because 'inter-city' TOCs generally didn't.

    Railcard boundaries in silly places

Harmonising railcard benefits and restrictions sounds very attractive but you just know that if harmonisation happened the most restrictive conditions would be implemented across all railcards rather than the least restrictive one. Would people be happy to see these sort of restrictions on all...

    Touching in/out at Farringdon

IIRC we had a case a couple of years ago where GTR were going to prosecute soeone who had tapped at Farringdon while interchanging. ISTR it took the involvement of @MikeWh via one of his contacts to get the matter dropped.

Reduced capacity at Wembley stadium due to engineering works - has anything like this happened before?

There’s events on at Wembley Stadium most weeks these days. Seems sensible to be to schedule engineering works for an event where a smaller crowd is expected.

Reduced capacity at Wembley stadium due to engineering works - has anything like this happened before?

I wouldn’t expect a National League play off match to reach anything like a capacity crowd at Wembley Stadium. What have the attendances been in previous years? I’m guessing not more than 40,000.

    Expired Railcard Chiltern prosecution

It is a strict liability offence and if the matter gets to court you would be guilty. I assume the outcome you want is persuade Chiltern not to send the matter to court but instead to offer you an out of court settlement.

    Expired Railcard Chiltern prosecution

The letter is asking you to provide any mitigation you want them to take into account.

    Expired Railcard Chiltern prosecution

Chiltern aren't prosecuting you - yet. What's happened is that you've been caught travelling with an invalid ticket. However unitientional it was this is a criminal offence and Chiltern are entitled to prosecute you in the Magistrates Court if they want to. Chiltern have written to you asking...

    Expired Railcard Chiltern prosecution
