    GTR penalty fare and prosecutions

I agree with this. It is very unusual for prosecutions departments to discuss things over the phone. You’re dealing with a criminal investigation, not a ‘cheery chat’ to discuss opinions. These things have to be done formally which is one reason why they won’t normally discuss matters over the...

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

Just a gentle nudge that this thread is to discuss the LNER Simpler Fares trial. Discussion about petrol prices, fuel duty etc is interesting but off-topic for this thread so further debate on this should take place in a separate thread.

    GTR penalty fare and prosecutions

However unintentional it was you committed a criminal offence by boarding the train without a ticket. GTR are entitled to prosecute you in the Magistrates Court if they want to. I would pay the settlement that has been offered to make the matter go away.

Does FastJP have a Depart after/Arrive by toggle switch?

If you want something else for your list, another feature I'd like to see is a button to switch origin and destination stations round.

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

Someone will correct me if I’m wrong but I thought it had been agreed that Priv discount would be allowed on 70-minute flex fares.

Ticket searches for London (All Stations/Any) vs London Terminals

Looking at the ticket selection on for a Stevenage to London journey, Trainsplit uses London (Any Station) when you click on 'change ticket selection' which could be confusing.

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

To expand I think the LNER structure will be seen across the 'inter-city' routes with local journeys being PAYG. Taking WGC as an example you can already use PAYG towards London, but if you're going to Edinburgh then you'd need an Advance/70-Minute Flex or Anytime.

    London Terminals - Thameslink Confusion

Have you been stopped while travelling? Can you upload a redacted copy of the email you'e been sent and forum members will be happy to assist. For future reference Stevenage to London Terminals is valid to: Kings Cross St Pancras Moorgate for completeness it's also technically valid into...

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

My suspicion is that this sort of LNER fares structure will end up being 'the' fares structure across the whole network.

Penalty Fare Notice - Travel on incorrect railcard

Should the appeal be rejected then 2nd appeal should be submitted. I suggest that the wording of the 2nd appeal is posted in this thread so that forum members can proof read it, as it is very important that the wording is correct to have the best chanc of success.

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

I’m travelling on the 17:05 from Stevenage to Kings Cross today. In coach G 37 of the seats have red lights showing them as reserved, the remainder have orange ‘mat be reserved’ lights. There are no green lights. There are 17 of us in this carriage.

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

Agreed. But the press release says that LNER have worked with the TOCs offering connecting services on this... It does encourage passengers to split. The thing is, on all the other services the fares to Knebworth and Stevenage are the same, so if GTR had made reservation quota available on...

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

Here's a demonstration of the issue of reservable quota on connecting trains. Taking Thursday 11th September as a random date. There are Advance and 70-Minute Flex fares available between Edinburgh and Stevenage. Change the destination to Knebworth and anyone wisjing to travel on the 18:30...

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

The terms and conditions of the 70-minute flex do not appear simple... If you choose to exercise the Flex option not only do you have to depart within 70 minutes of the original train, you must also arrive within 180 minutes of the original arrival time. So now passengers have to look up...

Advance Fares - is there any logic any more?

I've travelled a few times on the 05:48 (06:10 from Stevenage). In my experience it's quiet, but gets busy at Newcastle where it's the first off-peak train to Edinburgh. It being sold out, and LNER having many seats available suggests that something is wrong with the pricing.

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

I'm not surprised by this but it's not good news. It will result in massive fares increases, especially at weekends. A few thoughts: What does the 70-minute flex apply to? Is it based on the booked start time of the journey or is it 70 minutes either side of the LNER train? What if there's not...

Advance Fares - is there any logic any more?

This is probably completely unscientific but on Friday 8th August I took the 21:00 LNER train from Kings Cross to Stevenage. I was using a flexible ticket and had made a reservation shortly before departure (I know I didn't need to). The train ws a 9-car Azuma. I made my way to coach A at the...

    Metrolink fine whilst using MOD90

Apologies, I’d misread the opening post. In that case I’d go to the press and the Mayor.

    Metrolink fine whilst using MOD90

I would not go to the press - yet. Whilst this is a bit of a howler people can, and do, make mistakes. A competent appeals process should allow the appeal. If the appeal isn’t upheld then that would be the time to go to the press.

What is this penalty and can I appeal it?

@usualrailguy should check their journey history on the TfL website to see what they have been charged for the journey. If what they’re saying is correct, that they touched their card, and payment was taken, but the gate didn’t open then the fare would have been paid and if they can evidence...
