Keygo interaction with standard ITSO when BoJ

There's no chance this would reach court. They'll just give you £2.85, at best. If it did reach court it may well be deemed vexatious. Its a complete waste of the court's time and that of the taxpayer funded GTR. You are doing it to harass GTR rather than recover your loss, by your own...

    Services you've done end-to-end

I thought of this thread yesterday when I made a couple of bookings, I'm glad it isn't locked! My Heart of Wales end-to-end from Swansea to Shrewsbury recently was almost derailed by a late arrival from Paddington on the day of the GSMR outage. TfW staff at Swansea were brilliant and proactive...

    Cambridge South new station opening

Firstly I think theyve got a bloody cheek crowing about new railway infrastructure having been obstructive to the Railways for two hundred years. It's their fault Cambridge station is anything but "Cambridge Central". I believe I am right in saying that they havent provided any of the funding...

Will the 810 involved in the Bedford crash be repaired or partly replaced?

Technically it was absolutely written off. Written off means a full insurance payout/replacement because it is uneconomic to repair, and the asset becoming the property of the insurance company. It was written off and GE acquired it back, presumably a very low price but offsetting the...

Will the 810 involved in the Bedford crash be repaired or partly replaced?

I just spent multiple minutes Googling Desiro testing accidents at Krefeld and the whereabouts of the twelfth 700/0 before realising you meant 70012

Why Cambridge South was not built with two islands instead of side/island/side platforms

Yes but pairing by direction would create a ton of conflicting movements either at Shepreth Branch Jn or the Cambridge throat, and undo all the capacity benefits of that four tracking and pairing.

    Cambridge South new station opening

And that's absolutely plenty! The RA2 typeface on plain white signage is refreshingly clean, especially compared to the livery!

Podcast: Signals to Danger - Railway disasters in the UK

Great news in a week of bad news. Dan has today posted a Flash Briefing on the Elstow collision in his usual personable but meticulous style, I recommend it highly as he talks through the accident and the factors around it. Thank you for this in a difficult week @tpfx89! Hoping to hear a new...

Should trains have yellow rear ends to reduce collisions?

Not primarily for high visibility, but not just for signallers to confirm the train is complete. There are visibility standards that specifically refer to visibility from distance of the tail light for following drivers as well as maximum levels due to driver dazzle. I cannot access the pdf as...

Should trains have yellow rear ends to reduce collisions?

I have to agree. High intensity front lights are one thing, but the rear LEDs are much dimmer. Safety is a belt and braces thing. There never seemed a compelling reason to actively remove yellow ends to me, though I can understand why properly specced white front lights can do a better job...

How can I be sure a train is a Thameslink train on my route please?

Only and always the rear first class on all Class 700 operated services serving Knebworth, whether Great Northern or Thameslink branded. It may be full by the time it reaches you, especially if it's one of the peak 12 car Peterborough to Horsham trains!

No National Rail sign outside my local station

To be pedantic, Crossrail the infrastructure and the Elizabeth Line the service are part of National Rail, but I fully expect TfL to continue to push their position that it's a pseudo tube line, including the signage as you suggest.

LNER charge 91.90 from Durham to London, and 200.80 for the same train from Newcastle

The most shocking thing to me here is that LNER are selling Super Off Peak tickets from Durham. And from a quick check of journeys tomorrow and Monday, Darlington and York as well. But not from Newcastle. It's a bit of a mess but it begs another question... Weren't these Super Off Peak tickets...

    Class 700s Being 'Refreshed"

No. If you have a standard ticket, are honest, and think it's first class you won't sit in it. If you have a standard ticket and sit in it thinking it's a bit cheeky, you won't get a penalty anyway. If you sit in it with a first class ticket, you won't get a penalty and you might not even know...

    Class 700s Being 'Refreshed"

Seat back tables Power sockets Both far more important than the "first class debacle". If the rear first is full because enough people know about it now, you don't need more signage because it won't benefit anyone.

Major Disruption through Purley 14/06/2026. Structural problem with rail bridge

I had a Super Off Peak Day Return from Cambridgeshire to Hove and I would be shocked if there was any resistance to any south coast to London ticket being accepted anywhere in the Southern region by yesterday evening. That said, I was not checked at all between Hove-Portsmouth Harbour, which...

    Tipping on Amtrak

I always tip a dollar a drink for bar service in a US airport lounge! Even for the free drinks. It never occurred to me to tip for the baggage car attendant on the Coast Starlight, or cafe counter service in the Sightseer Lounge, but would have tipped if I was having a sit down meal and been...
