Fare dodging at Reading - appeal advice

We are trying to give advice to a 16 year old over a £50 penalty. I would suggest that when we start 'asking very technical legal questions that need lawyers to answer' we have stopped giving practical advice that is likely to help the OP. It is not proportionate to what will help them.

Fare dodging at Reading - appeal advice

Not sure what you are trying to say here: per https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/penalty-fares-and-how-to-pay-them#on-this-page-3 While the 'appeal by post' instructions don't appear to quote a deadline neither do they mention six months. The general understanding is that an appeal needs to be lodged...

Got caught with the wrong railcard!

Overwhelmingly, matters like this are settled out of court: what the railway wants to know is that you - understand that what you have done is wrong - will pay back what you should have paid for the proper tickets and - you won't do it again Essentially, they want to protect their revenue...

Got caught with the wrong railcard!

So in terms of 'evidence to the contrary', you will need to confirm with your family in south Bermondsey that they're prepared to go to court and state on oath that you've been staying with them. At the current stage, when you will be responding to the railway by post or email, that will be what...

What would the ideal Great Western Main Line (GWML) look like?

It seems to me to be near essential - it allows use of electric-only units on Oxford terminating trains (simpler and cheaper than bimodes, so presumably more reliable), could reintroduce through running to Paddington for slow trains - and is a necessary first step to linking up with the WCML...

Fare dodging at Reading - appeal advice

While this approach may have merit by the letter of the law, it overlooks two things: - the potential for the OP's friend, who has staff travel facilities and so presumably works for some part of the railway, to get into trouble at work if this matter goes further, and - the fact that the OP...

Fare dodging at Reading - appeal advice

It reads to me that the OP was travelling with someone with staff travel facilities: that someone didn't have to pay, and OP assumed that meant they didn't have to pay either. As the OP says, they now realise they were mistaken in that view: I would add (in case they don't already know) that...

Fare dodging at Reading - appeal advice

But this isn't a prosecution: it appears to be a penalty fare or something similar issued on the spot. So I doubt if an appeal saying 'I am under 18' will work. And at the risk of being overly judgemental, I don't see anything which would lead to a successful appeal: you did something wrong...

Train Operator is refusing delay repay claim as ticket was bought via National Rail.co.uk and not their own website

This statement itself might need decoding for anyone not deeply familiar with the ways of the railway. Might it help to provide diagrams to show where one might find the 'retailers NLC' or the 'UTN' - and if the OP wants us to follow things up we might then be able to go the next stage and...

    Using someone else’s railcard

I'm not going to purport to be an expert, but my feeling is that the railway would be looking to settle this out of court. That's because I don't remember us seeing many (if any) attempts by the railway to prosecute for this offence. So bringing a prosecution will be new to the railway - and it...

    Short faring caught

I think that what you have said in your letter is all that you need to say about being absent for the moment. You do have to say something to encourage the railway to email you rather than send a letter, but I don't think they will need more details just now. Realistically, I doubt if they will...

Help please: accused of buying ticket on the train

Please show us what you have been sent (make sure you hide your name, address and personal details and any references so the whole internet doesn't get to know about you!). If I have understood things properly, this is the first contact from GTR so it may not be a court pack, but may be a letter...

Which would be of limited relevance to converting the remaining railway line which doesn't go anywhere near Newport.

Prosecution case and saw online for a settlement. If I pay for this now, will that be the end of it?

For that, I would suggest trying to pay it online again - it might now work if there was a delay in loading it. Also, check any reference you need to put in very carefully: - have you read every character right (if the printing isn't good, an '8' can look like a '3' or a '6' or '9' and so on)...

Railcard case settled in March, new letter received for interview

To add to the advice above, if the railway are to claim money back from you in the civil court, they still need to show that it was you who travelled. The standard of proof isn't so high in the civil court (the usual way of saying it is that in the civil court it's what's most likely to be true...

Isle of Wight Island line: speculation/suggestions/potential improvements

If the problem is lack of road capacity for public transport down the East Coast, isn't the option to look at to close the railway and use the trackbed for a bus lane which can then go off on to other roads?

Prosecution case and saw online for a settlement. If I pay for this now, will that be the end of it?

The best advice must be to wait a bit - probably until Monday now. It looks as if there may be correspondence in the post for your partner, while your penalty fare hasn't yet been loaded on to the system. Both of these are issues which may well go away with a little bit of time.

Urgent advice for appealing a fine for ₤1800

To look at this: - were these journeys that you made? - if so, did you have a valid railcard for them? - and do you still have proof of that railcard? What I'm trying to do here is to work out if in fact there was anything wrong that you need to pay the back fare for. (EDIT) - quite a lot of...

    Contactless to stansted

'Not' or 'now'? (my emphasis in the above) Sorry to be picky, but I'm not sure if you're trying to confirm that for those two days it's now right - or that for those two days it's still wrong. Thanks!
