Man with no train ticket told to pay 150 times the fare [Bristol Post]

So for high earners it would work in their favour not to turn up, as even without the 33% discount, they'll still pay less?

    Transport for Wales 769's

How are the passenger cabin noise levels on the 769s compared to the 150s? I would happily trade a few minutes slower on the timetable for a quieter ride. The "throbbing" of the 150s engine heard from inside is not particuarly pleasent.

Travelling from A to C, returning C to B, then B to A the following day.

Is an open return actually valid though, as i am splitting my return journey over 2 days? I am travelling from A to B, B to C, C to B on one day, and then B to A on the next day.

Travelling from A to C, returning C to B, then B to A the following day.

Hi, I occasionally travel from Reading to East Croydon, via the North Downs Line to Redhill, and then changing onto Thameslink. I return to Redhill the same day. The following day I travel from Redhill to Reading. So far, my inelegant solution is an e-ticket open return from Reading to...

TFW - Accused of Fare Evasion

I never said that they didn't.

TFW - Accused of Fare Evasion

Slightly off-topic but I think TFW should change this strange activation system for e-tickets. Nobody else does that, and most people aren't used to it on this, or other modes of transport. The few times I've used TFW I've nearly forgotten the activation part too. It's natural to think in your...

    3tph on North Downs Line

If the 769s are not going to running on the North Downs Line in the near future, then why introduce the December timetable with the "stretched out" running times to accomodate their weaker performance?

    3tph on North Downs Line

Looks like TFW might be first with the Class 769s. They are saying all-day service starting from December. Have any testing units actually been along the North Downs Line yet?

    Rail travel - a luxury?

This has a lot to do with CrossCountry's business plan. From what I can see they think customers who travel with them only a few stops are more price-sensitive, and are considering other means of transport. So they need to attract them with low advance fares. Others who are travelling...

    Rail travel - a luxury?

As someone who did own a car, but now doesn't there is an advantage of rail travel not mentioned yet. I would often find that following a medium to long distance car journey I would need an hour to unwind from all the focusing on the road my brain had been doing during the drive. Also my eyes...

    Interior lighting in modern carriages

Thanks that thread was very informative. Seems a combination between long procurement meaning only older generations of LED lighting can be fitted, and the people speccing the trains not knowing about colour temperature of lighting. Perhaps there is hope that when the LED bulbs come to be...

    Interior lighting in modern carriages

What colour is it in the evening? Modern designers seem to go for blinding bright hospital white over the more pleasant yellow you might have in your living room. Eurostar have managed to alter theirs a bit, but in the early days people were wearing sunglasses on the E320 as it was so unpleasant.

    Interior lighting in modern carriages

I agree entirely, but when there are only a handful of people per carriage they are amazing!

    Interior lighting in modern carriages

Having had to use quite a few evening services recently I've noticed distinct differences in the quality of the lighting across different rolling stock, and disappointingly some of the newest trains are the worst. My subjective opinions: GWR 801 - blue white, harsh, clinical, overly bright...

    Query on London Paddington ticket

The possible error I spotted ends in a few weeks anyway with the December timetable change. Also if people want to hide this thread from the pricing managers, it's probably best to not keep commenting on it!

    Query on London Paddington ticket

Well the error ends in December anyway because the 4.57 goes back to 4.58pm. Would the ticket gates at Oxford be currently programmed to allow an off-peak ticket through on this train? It seems a lot of hassle if you have to get into an argument with GWR staff just to take this journey!

    Query on London Paddington ticket

which is correct? it is allowed to travel on the 1657 or not? would seem a bit strange that they re-timed a train by 1 minute and suddenly it becomes off peak...

    Query on London Paddington ticket

yes. as I said in my post there is a disagreement between brfares and nationalrail.co.uk. a search on nationalrail greys out all return options 4-7pm except for the 4.57pm.

    Query on London Paddington ticket

hi, looking at a journey from oxford to paddington and back. according to brfares.com you cannot travel on any train leaving paddington between ~4-7pm with an off peak day return ticket. however according to nationalrail website you can travel on the 4.57pm train? is this correct?

Alternative website for looking up train fares?

I'm running a 3rd party pkpass app on Android and it works smoothly. Only 2 clicks to show a pass. LNER (and I think now Avanti) support Google Wallet for storing tickets but not Google Pay for purchasing them. If a search engine doesn't autofill then everybody has to fill in month/day/time...
