Montpellier - Nimes Bypass LGV status, and effect on Paris-Barcelona travel times?

People said that Paris-Barcelona in 6h15 wasn't competitive, but they manage to fill the trains. Tourists especially don't seem to mind. Barcelona-Madrid could actually be done in close to 2 hours if running at 350 kph instead of 320kph but the Spanish decided that the extra energy used was too...

Why doesn't the e320 Eurostar run at 200mph?

I guesss you also need to consider if the acceleration is superior? Newspaper article from e320 introduction (2014): "Eurostar unveils 200mph e320 trains to knock 15 minutes off journey from London to Paris"...

Why doesn't the e320 Eurostar run at 200mph?

Hi, A simple question, perhaps I've missed it somewhere. When the e320 were introduced we were promised 15 minutes quicker London-Paris using the 200mph capability once all the previous rolling stock was withdrawn on that route. This doesn't seem to have happened. Does anyone know why?

Montpellier - Nimes Bypass LGV status, and effect on Paris-Barcelona travel times?

Indeed. The timings to get Paris - Madrid in 6hr5min are given here https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGV_Bordeaux_-_Espagne

Montpellier - Nimes Bypass LGV status, and effect on Paris-Barcelona travel times?

The grand plan is eventually to have Paris-Madrid in 6 hours, so Paris-Barcelona in <4 hours as the other bit is already maxed out at 320kph. They're going to need to work some magic for that to happen.

Montpellier - Nimes Bypass LGV status, and effect on Paris-Barcelona travel times?

Oh yes that's true. Never been on it myself, but I'm sure I remember that Sete Agde and Beziers weren't in the original Paris-Barcelona schedule. Seems a bad business move. The end to end journey is long enough as it is that many people will fly it instead.

Journeys between stations that are quicker to cycle

Just posted a thread about London Paddington to London Victoria. Circle line is scheduled to take 14 minutes whereas google cycle directions says 17 minutes. With all the stairs and waiting time I'd say the bike wins (probably)

Paddington Station exit for Santander cycle docking station?

Hi, I was wondering which is the best exit from Paddington to get to South Wharf Road to pick up a "Boris bike" (yes I know not his idea!)? It seems you can walk out the front and round the side but rather a long way round. I'll be coming in on a GWR platform from Reading. Also, in these COVID...

Montpellier - Nimes Bypass LGV status, and effect on Paris-Barcelona travel times?

Hi, Does anyone know what is happening with the Montpellier - Nimes Contournement (Bypass)? This supposedly came into service in late 2019 and was intended to save 20 minutes on the Paris - Perpignan line. However, when I check Paris-Barcelona journey times, they seem to be getting slower and...

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

Yes I had already considered getting of at Falguière as it's also a smaller station serving only 1 line. I realise my question is the exact opposite to most requests on these forums. I'm not looking for the fastest route, but the one with least contact with other humans!

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

very useful information. i think we will probably have to go for line 12 as quietness is the priority. do you know if it's possible to move between carriages easily if one became busy?

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

It does sound like a good option. The only worry is that one person coughs on a bus and everyone gets the virus! I notice the 91 bus appears to be a longer articulated one? more space, although I guess that means more people might use it. I should add we have 2 hours to make the connection so...

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

Further up it says RER is just as crowded. I'm thinking walking 19 minutes to Notre Dame de Lorette on the Metro Line 12, getting off at Pasteur, and then a 8 minute walk to the TGV platforms. Definitely indirect, but potentially less crowded, and uses minor stations I think. Anybody know...

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

We will be crossing Paris around lunchtime/early afternoon. According to wikipedia line 4 is the busiest on the network, but I guess crowding can depend on many things such as frequency of trains, length of trains etc. Even getting on and off at quieter stations might help. As I said, we don't...

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

Hi, sorry to resurrect this thread but can anyone recommend a route from Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse TGV which is the quietest possible? I will be travelling with an elderly but fit uncle, with light luggage, and want to avoid crowded enclosed spaces as much as possible due to COVID...

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

I don't really get the mentality of "normal" people who won't pay just because they can get away with it. As you go through life you should be doing the right thing whether somebody is checking or not. Isn't that just basic moral standards?

CrossCountry Oxford to Guildford slower than GWR stopping service

I guess a large part is also that it would be unworkable to tell a driver that you can go 70mph here, then 82 mph a bit further on, then only 76mph after that. You could imagine though, that in the future with more automated driving, the speed limits could be customised in fine detail to the...

CrossCountry Oxford to Guildford slower than GWR stopping service

But the 70mph must be artificial to some extent as all the other parameters put together are unlikely to give you a max of exactly 70 at every point on the line? I agree that you don't save much time but there is something to be said for feeling like you're going at a good pace, rather than...

CrossCountry Oxford to Guildford slower than GWR stopping service

I recently timed this North Downs route (Gatwick-Reading) on the semi-express service using the GPS on my phone. Between stations it fairly quickly got up to 70mph and stayed there, with the exception of a couple of sharp curves either side of Guildford where it slowed to 40mph but these weren't...
