Do Class 80x units have a theoretical top speed of 140mph on electric power?

I guess most drivers will shut the power off and hit the brakes as soon as ATP starts warbling. I'm told the 80x will effortlessly reach the ATP warning speeds. Hence why many drivers like using the 124mph speed hold facility.

Do Class 80x units have a theoretical top speed of 140mph on electric power?

Maybe..but probably not required if running commercially at 125mph. The ovrrspeed test for 140mph can be done later. In Italy, Trenitalia and NTV wanted to homologate their existing trainsets for 360 km/h (223mph) running and were about to embark on a series of overspeed tests up to 396 km/h...

Do Class 80x units have a theoretical top speed of 140mph on electric power?

Regearing? My understanding is that they will do 140mph with ease as they are. No regearing required. ATP limits any overspeed in manual driving mode on GWML to a what I understand is a maximum of around 128/129mph before the brakes kick in.

    Greater Anglia Rolling Stock Updates

I read the 720s were to be used first on Southend Victoria services - surely they would test extensively on that route plus anywhere else that would be on a typical days diagram. Not sure the 321's just shut to Southend all day. Surely they serve Witham Colchester etc and Southend on days diagram?

    Greater Anglia Rolling Stock Updates

Why has it gone to Norwich second day in a row..when these will primarily be used on commuter services on West Anglia and Great Eastern? How is driver training gearing up?

    HST fuel consumption

Provided the 2+4s and 2+5's + faster journey times + increased frequency = more bums on seats and revenue - the next likely option is electrification +EMUs or none or part electrification + BMU's. We wait to see what the economy and the working world looks like post-coronavirus!

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

Agreed! I have been on a packed 700 in peak time out of kentish Town in better times. Think it was an 8-car to Luton.

    HST fuel consumption

Very true. Pretty easy to add in an extra vehicle or two - as long as they procure enough before the rest go for scrap.

    Greater Anglia Rolling Stock Updates

It makes sense to clear the decks and create space at Norwich for the remaining 745/755's

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

The Siemsn Class 700 is a high-density metro design interior. I read that a 12-car Class 700 has 666 seats - but is designed to additionally carry an additional 1088 standing passengers Class 745/0 has 752 seats - and i would imagine a lot less standing capacity. So the Class 745 offers more...

    HST fuel consumption

I guess that they hope to recoup any increased running costs by attracting more bums on seats. That is achieved in 2 ways - having a frequent and reliable service. Offering journey times and ticket prices that compete with the private car.

    HST fuel consumption

So there are a number of conclusions to draw here! A Class 170 needs to spend 230% of the time an HST does to reach 100mph 6 mins v 2.5 min The HST MTU engine consumption figure was 944 l/hr based on 5364hp setting Assuming a reduction in power to 4500hp reduces the fuel consumption by a similar...

    HST fuel consumption

    I recorded a 170 from Linlithgow heading towards Glasgow -uphil 1 in 682 for 3.5 miles and downhill 1 in 960 thereafter. 0 to 60mph in 1 min 45 secs and 0 to 100mph in 5 mins 30 sec. Conversely i found a file of Anglia's last 170 doing 0 to 60mph in 1min55 sec and 0 to 98mph in 6 min 10 secs (7...

GA Class 90 Mark 3 Sets Withdrawal

Ahhh sorry lol. I was aboard a set last week, but after stepping out of a 755 regional train, the Mk3's (in standard class) seemed really dull dreary and quite dirty. First class is a lot nicer, but still, i was more pleased to have bagged a last Kings Cross to Aberdeen return trip, as the LNER...

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

There is a lot of slack in this timetable. Looking at the more detailed version of Realtime trains..the station to station running times were in line with what most 745s achieve on a daily basis - just much shorter dwell times..

GA Class 90 Mark 3 Sets Withdrawal

That's eight 'Intercity' units and one Stansted. More than enough to maintain the current diagrams then. How much additional time and preparation is needed between official acceptance and availability for service? Which other units are around Crown point undergoing fault free running and testing?

GA Class 90 Mark 3 Sets Withdrawal

I don't think you are missing too much - especially the additional virus catching risk of having to manually open door handles and droplight windows etc. The squeaking and lurching when starting/stopping won't be missed either.

GA Class 90 Mark 3 Sets Withdrawal

It is reported that even more 745's had been accepted, so it will all depend on availability of the 745's I guess.

GA Class 90 Mark 3 Sets Withdrawal

I am hearing a rake of mk 3-s sitting in Norwich lower without a loco and looking ready for haulage away for storage/scrap. Reports that 90001 is out today with a mk 3 rake.
