    Derbyshire Wayfarer validity

He just couldn't work out how to, it's certainly possible though a little fiddly given the various different wayfarer types.

CrossCountry Train Managers striking in October

I believe the straw that has broken the camel's back is the significant extra payment made to managers undertaking this work, which isn't available to the actual train crews for working overtime themselves, despite for example most in that position not having revenue training so not covering all...

    RMT Talks

It is important to note by the way that apparently TSSA are dragging their heels over the offer regarding pensionable pay for grades for which they hold bargaining rights at TOCs, which potentially means that even if RMT members vote to accept implementation could be delayed.

Which passenger trains are booked to use the Werrington dive-under?

It is of course always variable as to what is happening on the day too, for whatever reason the signallers may choose not to use the dive under. The morning train pair from/to Lincoln is fairly reliable, but not guaranteed.

    London - Nottingham via Newark

As it happens I've been pleasantly surprised how many Regional trains through Grantham EMR have strengthened today - there are some two cars but mostly 3, 4, 5 and even 6 car trains on both Nottingham - Skegness and Liverpool - Peterborough.

    London - Nottingham via Newark

The Newark - Nottingham trains at that time of day are invariably heaving with drinkers heading out anyway, there's a Notts County home match too. Expect it to be busy/full/leaving people behind whichever route you take. If you get the xx37ish or xx47ish trains that start at Newark they'd be...

Probably need to return via Nuneaton, is that permitted route for Leicester to London St P

Sorry for the slow reply - EMR weekend first has gone up to £15 but isn't widely advertised anymore so it took me some playing with a ticket machine to find out!

    Mulhouse harsh ticket controllers

France is France. A friend recently tried to buy an FIP ticket at a guichet. This can be a tricky operation on SNCF's ticket issuing software, so I mentioned to the agent the necessary discount code. I speak some French, plenty to cover the requirement. "Yes, yes, I know!" was the response so I...

They were to be moved last night but the NR staff were diverted to deal with a fatality. Now Saturday night.

Clan Line's Smoke Halts Service Train

I was once the guard on a class 158 that crossed a steam loco in Cowburn Tunnel. I got a call from the driver to say he could see bugger all as the pressure had sucked it in through the open cab window and the passengers sent a deputation to the back cab to bang on the door where I was eating my...

    Eurostar Assistance Farce

Absolutely. Not the same consequence but a recent experience in France. Arrive at ticket barrier for train with completed free travel pass for a train that is advertised as reservation advised, but not compulsory. "Non non, your coupon is fine, but you must get a reservation from the...

Disruption Derby - Birmingham 11/09/24 - Cows on the line

2 unfortunate deceased buffalo and one damaged 170 to be dragged by the other one to Central Rivers at 5 mph tonight apparently for attention. Very lucky it wasn't worse than it was.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Along with similar retrofitted rubber steps on other traction such as 170 my understanding is that it's there to try and cushion any impact on your head against the desk in the case of a sudden deceleration or impact. I'm sure I had that from a rolling stock designer.

Nottingham Robin Hood season cards - rights compared to a train season ticket

Boundary stations are: Attenborough (not Beeston) Netherfield/Carlton Bulwell (trains) Hucknall (tram only) Split tickets are fine and won't cause any issues - XC and EMR are the only relevant TOCs in terms of the local journeys and both participate in the Robin Hood scheme. Delay Repay won't...
