    LNE ticket almost refused

EMR first class hosts check all tickets in first class, in case of dispute they're meant to refer any issues to the train manager to deal with. A tiny number of train managers will check first class themselves but it's very few. They often do help with the tea trolley though!

    Crewe - Nottingham EMR

The line is in a cutting so it's hard to tell. Road next to it, George Avenue in Meir is 618ft above sea level so I reckon about 600ft would be about right.

    Crewe - Nottingham EMR

I'd guess the summit between Meir Tunnel and Caverswall, though I couldn't tell you the elevation.

    "Fake" Ticket Inspectors

In a word, no. There have been occasional issues but no, it's not a common problem.

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

Your 222 figures are nonsense which means so are the rest of your percentages, a 2 car class 170/5 has 122 standard class seats. No idea where you've gotten that from. A 5 car 222 (with the exception of 005/006 and 101-104 which are non standard) has 192 standard class seats and a 7 car has 236...

Bikes on trains - do I have priority over somebody sat in the bike storage area?

Wrong, the tip up seats are there for use if the space isn't required for bikes.

are speed limits treated as targets

We have one particular driver who has been a dawdler since day 1 - they've been reported no end of times for constantly losing time in running (being their guard is extremely frustrating because they'll lose you time to the point of losing your path, with the attendant missed connections and...

are speed limits treated as targets

Funnily enough I was on 1R50 recently and the Hazel Grove signaller achieved an absolutely beautiful bit of signalling - I noticed we were running on greens through Disley Tunnel and through the junction rather than being stopped on the chord to let the Buxton go through first. The Bobby judged...

29 new trains for Transpennine Express ?

Even going back 10 plus years when they were fairly new I had a regular lady who was a wheelchair user who I assisted on to trains and she would specifically book to avoid TPE for the later leg of her journey as she resented being dumped, in her words, away from everyone else outside the toilet...

29 new trains for Transpennine Express ?

That's always been the interesting comparison between for example the EMR services on the south route and the TPE ones - the TPE 6 cars are nicer trains but heavy on first class and the best people movers are undoubtedly now the EMR 6 car 170s featuring around 370 - 380 seats on the services...

EMR applies to run more Nottingham to Lincoln trains from December 2025

The type of signal is irrelevant, the problem is the lack of will to pay for staffing the 7 mechanical signalboxes and 1 staffed gate box for more than 2 shifts on a weekday and 1 shift on a Sunday. Some of the boxes have colour light signals but they're all traditional mechanical boxes, albeit...

Reservations and catering on regional services

Liverpool - Norwich has a trolley Grantham - Liverpool with some shorter trolley runs at the start/end of the day. Some trollies to Norwich are being trialled. Seat reservations were dispensed with just before COVID.

EMR applies to run more Nottingham to Lincoln trains from December 2025

The train crew hate it. Nothing better than the constant buzzing of pass coms as drunken race goers smack them in the toilet, with the pools of sick and added fighting. 4 car trains full and standing though so if anyone actually pays they must be money makers

Avanti made me wait with my bike to make room for two other cyclists to board despite me having a bike reservation for the train

Maybe you were getting off first and they wanted bikes travelling further to be stacked at the back so they're not blocking you from getting off at Coventry? Seems a silly thing to be getting so worked up about, if your complaint reads like your post I'd be laughing as I sent the standard "very...

    Use of horns

Not so much a restraint but there are "quiet hours" between 2359 and 0600 where the driver shouldn't use the horn for whistle boards, otherwise in an emergency or when a person is seen near the line they should be used 24 hours a day.

Disruption on WCML last Thursday, 26 Sept: Why Terminate at Preston?

Depends what they're doing I suppose given the Preston crews also have other work. If they work half or less of jobs, or worse - have a mix of a Scottish driver and Preston guard or vice versa it all becomes very complicated quite quickly! Avanti rarely run much if at all north of Preston when...

    RMT Talks

Chuck me the same incentive contingency staff get to work their rest days and I'll do a grip and provide far more flexible route coverage  Oh wait, no, I'm just a guard working as a guard, no need to offer me hundreds of pounds of incentives and lunch on the company for my 700 route miles...

Operation of Passenger Trains during Lightning Storms?

    Derbyshire Wayfarer validity

It's their product. The validity change is that formerly the concessionary Wayfarer was available to all over 60s, it's changed to make it only ENCTS holders that get the concession, not Senior Railcard holders or over 60s.

CrossCountry Train Managers striking in October

Not true - route learning is the key to avoiding operational incidents. I would say it's the most important element as a comfortable knowledge of where you are in the railway world sets you up to conduct your duties in an unhurried and methodical fashion, rather than rushing about because you...
