Chiltern 165s and 168s working in pairs - timetable performance

Hi all. As part of my normal commute from Banbury to Birmingham, the usual traction is a Chiltern 168. Occasionally a Chiltern 165 arrives, but despite its lower top speed, it seems to generally keep to time - may be a few minutes late by the time it reaches Birmingham. This has always been...

Ways To Make Revenue Protection More Fair

This one frustrates me... 4. Tickets sold on board by the Train Manager should also come with a warning that it is an offence to board a train without a valid ticket. I see this regularly on my commute and I've never heard the Train Manager once say "you should have bought your ticket before...

Should a separate category be reintroduced for double deck driving?

So, bearing in mind I know nothing as I've never driven a bus in my life. It's something which has always interested me. So you pass your test to drive a bus, and you can drive any bus or coach - even if you passed driving a single decker? Does driving a double decker feel different to...

    Why 4’8 1/2”?

Evening all. Just watching Michael Portillo’s great European Railway Journeys with Mrs BanburyBlue. We’re in Greece (on the tv, not in reality) and there’s a section of antique Roman track. I remember something in the back of my mind that said in Roman times they found railway type tracks...

    Chiltern change of prosecution policy.

Yes, although aren’t people allowed to pay fines/compensation in instalments -might take a while to pay Chiltern back at £20 a month.

    Chiltern change of prosecution policy.

Yes good point. I don't know how good court fine enforcement is, and how long it takes for Chiltern to get the compensation. Isn't there normally a quick turnaround in these out of court settlements, so Chiltern get their money quickly.

    Chiltern change of prosecution policy.

There definitely has been a change in enforcement this year. I commute 3 days a week from Banbury to Birmingham. Ticket checks used to be few and far between - normally from leaving Banbury, rarely on the way home. The barriers at Banbury would be left open more often than not, especially in...

    Chiltern change of prosecution policy.

Afternoon all. I'm fairly sure in the not too dim and distant past, Chiltern were always said to be one of the train companies that rarely offered out of court settlements. However, recently there seems to be view that Chiltern now will nearly always settle out of court. It's like they've...

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

I used Birmingham Central Post Office the other day for the first time, and they had one of those machines that issued tickets, with a big screen calling people to the counter when your number was ready.

Midland Metro: car on the tracks at St Chads (06/11)

We've been having the same discussion in the office. The drops are quite significant: 8 - 10". We were wondering if they drove on the pavement to get around them? Mind you, didn't James Bond manage to drive a car on railway tracks in Octopussy?

Midland Metro: car on the tracks at St Chads (06/11)

The nearest road is Colmore Row. So drove past One/Two/Three Snow Hill offices, through St Chad's tram stop. and got stuck in the points the St Paul's side of St Chad's tram stop. I thought there was car traps near the Colmore Row end, but I guess managed to get past them. All finally removed...
