The venue side of things does seem to still be rather rudimental. To give one example - imagine I have breakfast in a Wetherspoons at 8am. Twelve hours later, someone goes in for a couple of pints. Yet if that latter person tests positive, I would have to self isolate (unless I'd checked in at a...
From a selfish point of view, a Wilko or similar in central Oxford would be greatly appreciated - it's a difficult city to live in on a budget. Yes, there are a good range of shops in Cowley, but that is quite a trek from much of the city.
From an economic recovery perspective, I think a lot of...
I spent a fair amount of time yesterday looking at forums for supporters of various football clubs. While they may not be representative of the general public, I found 11 had a fairly clear consensus in favour of the government's approach, 8 were clearly against it (like this forum), and 12 were...
I know paths on the GWML make this impossible, but:
(Nuneaton - Coventry - Leamington Spa - Banbury) - Oxford - Swindon - Chippenham - Bath Spa - Bristol Temple Meads. The part in brackets is optional, particularly the extension through to Nuneaton from Coventry.
If the part beyond Chippenham...
I think the idea that everyone around us should be seen as a walking biohazard is really pernicious. It's definitely not a healthy way of viewing others.
Is this still the case? I checked earlier today and there seemed to only be the through train from Glasgow, with the Dalmally bus not shown...
There do seem to be a lot of ambiguities in the rules still. Take face coverings in hospitality - do they need to be worn in outside areas such as beer gardens? Do they need to be worn when sat at a table but waiting for food and drink? Sadly, a lot of these will probably end up being open to...
I hope so. My concerns are that the following will happen (which I consider fairly likely):
1. This winter's restrictions mean that we have a very mild flu season, killing far fewer people than normal.
2. A vaccine, herd immunity, or some miracle moonshot happens, and by summer next year life...
Not visibly upset, but I do find they really get me down. There's something a bit sad about the way they block emotions and cover much of the face. I've found that a surprising number of people think much the same.
At the moment, there is cause for them, and I believe they do more good than...
I'm not, I don't mind wearing them (though strictly speaking, I am exempt). I'm dubious of their benefits, but I do accept they might have some (as mentioned, to do with reducing the amount of virus transmitted).
But I think they're utterly dispiriting. When I see a crowd of people all wearing...
It's unknown, but I highly doubt it. There's a reason why most of those who are pro-mask now talk about their effects in reducing viral load (which does seem much more plausible).
With the rule that you can't enter or leave Newport without a reason, does this mean people won't be able to travel from Bristol to Cardiff without good reason (since they'd have to go through Newport)?
Yes, the only destinations Manors is useful for are Cramlington* and possibly the Tyne Valley line or Morpeth. I do think Manors could be busier if rebranded and spruced up - it is very close to the Quayside with all its attractions. But at the moment, it's very forlorn indeed.
*Actually...
It isn't so much the further restrictions which bother me (though masks indoors in pubs/restaurants is ridiculous and unnecessary), but the duration of it all. Six more months of this, and no doubt it will extend further. I know so many people who feel utterly miserable because of the last few...
It's interesting that this has also spread from the likes of Steve Baker, who are really on the fringes, to people like Graham Brady, who is chairman of the 1922 Committee, and thus quite a big player. He spoke to the BBC just today about how he is concerned the government is ruling by decree...
Though it seems like multiple of the current vaccines are effective, and current trials are mainly to determine whether there are any side effects. It's certainly reasonable to think we could have an effective vaccine reasonably soon. How soon is another question, and of course vaccines must be...
The majority opinion I've noticed is broadly as follows. People are totally fed up with restrictions, and many people are finding them nearly impossible to live with. But they're also willing to put up with them out of fear of the virus. The problem is that most of these people either...
We then walk to Stop N on Blue Boar Row, then take the 1025 Salisbury Reds service X5 to Swindon Park North, New College, arriving at 1214 on Tuesday afternoon.
