The internal grapevine suggests similar to what one of the other posters suggested.
Units will be repainted into a new livery but only when they go in for refurbishment or are new trains. Basically in order to give the impression of new trains and improvement following the start of the new...
319366 did indeed enter service and promptly fail yesterday afternoon with a suspected motor alternater fault which left it stranded at Lime Street until the late evening. A ever trusty 156 filled in for it on the 2016 LIV-MIA and return
The plan is to introduce 319's to the Warrington BQ service from December and also to use Electrics on the 2 additional peak LIV-MCV's in the morning and evening.
This will require a slight timetable reshuffle but essentially the idea is to have no diesal running on fully electrified routes...
Both Manchester depots are now at or over their establishment of drivers with drivers from other depots awaiting transfers in. Is the rumour on the internal grape vine.
Northern are getting quite good at moving units round at a weekend for major events. So today a lot of the diesels worked in the Manchester area doubled up and there was also strengthening for the rugby in the North East.
Of interest in this thread the 1750 Liverpool - WBQ and return is now...
Get a berth activated message on the GSMr and provided you acknowledge it the signaller won't stop you to advise.
If you fail to acknowledge you'll be stopped and cautioned as normal.
That's my understanding anyway.
We do have one of the lead engineers at Allerton who had transferred up from FCC land and brings a wealth of knowledge with him.
Unfortunately the ROSCO/TOC has changed some of the traction package on the Northern 319's after removal of the DC gear which has made them different to both operate...
Medical is quite simple. Just a chat with a nurse. Height/Weight/eyesight/hearing and a urine test. Make sure you declare all of your medical history as they will check!
Other than that good luck.
Easy answer is safety. If you rush a attachment and it goes wrong only one person is getting the blame and that's the driver.
So yes it can be rushed but the question is would you risk your job to save an extra 3 minutes?
To add a little more meat my TOCs couple procedure has 20 steps...
Pretty much what Driver 9000 says.
Also on a packed train the guard has to either remain at the passenger doors or fight his way to and from the back cab.
You may not wish to think this but trains do become aggressive and having a place of safety to work from is as important as the guard...
Was a trail to coincide with the 319/Northern Electrics branding at Lime Street but it's been announced (just today ironically) that it won't be rolled out further.
Bell buzzer on desk still works that's the one drivers us to give 'two back' when the guard gives us the ready to start signal.
On Northern we have an agreement that drivers don't operate passenger doors. This is done by the guard.
In an emergency I suppose we'd have to go into the passenger...
Yes as 507 states above the door controls are now situated by the passenger doors in every carriage in an attempt by Northern to make conductors 'more visible' .
A move not welcomed by conductors but unfortunately the RMT had to agree with it because it safeguards the role of the guard.
The...
Just a little clarification for the post above. People in the talent pools do and have been used for depots other than the one they applied for. I trained with two people who applied for Wigan and got Liverpool and I myself applied for one depot and got another. (Although I was an internal...
Do you mean the door controls on the drivers desks or the ones on the bulkhead wall behind the drivers seats?
The answer is yes to both but both have been modified with blanking plates as there are now no door controls in the cab.
They got 368 going again with 1 group of traction motors isolated.
It did however limp back with 'many fault relays tripped' .
Bit of masking tape and it'll be back on Monday.
