Perhaps I could have been more delicate in my initial wording. The gist is I can imagine in an environment like city Thameslink one might expect the ohle to be there and whilst they know its not under certain conditions they may forget.
That said to move away he must have lowered the shoes so...
True but given they are far from the only TOC who seem to struggle with this stuff there is the possibility it is quite a hard balance to strike between getting information out to people correctly but also expediently when the landscape keeps moving.
Not saying they couldn't do better but...
The app has been showing all sorts of nonsense... Then again nre says delays of 60 mins rather than nothing through the core and even RTT isn't showing every appropriate train as cancelled. Suspect they're trying to get the short term planning services in correctly. I always find it slightly...
If the system couldn't raise or lower it sure but what if it got itself into a condition where it did not realise it had to. I'm assuming there will be some procedural compensating control in place but if it normally just happens human nature will take over and at some point it will be...
Do we think this is more or less likely once the 700s come along? I understand they will automatically raise and lower the pantograph - just wondering how obvious it will be to the driver if it has got it wrong...
The managing director of Chiltern Trains, on BBC's Panorama, had asked Network Rail to quote for a new station for Warwick Parkway. Network Rail said it would cost £13 million. The managing director thought this was a lot of money. He went to the train companies and the station was built for...
It was mentioned on another post (can't find it now) that when they were planning the Thameslink upgrade they considered taking the wires to Elephant and Castle as it has 4 platforms so a train that failed to switch traction could be reversed without completely blocking the line. The expense and...
You are assuming the decision was made by SE and not NR. Other posts earlier suggest this may not have been the case. If the people who operate the signals say no you're not going to go anywhere! If NR did tell SE not to run anything as they needed possession then in fact it is very good...
It will show the platform on the outbound service as soon as the planned inbound comes in. I've used in many times to get a couple of minutes ahead of the rabble.
realtimetrains.co.uk yes :)
My favourite tactic to get a seat from Euston is to use RTT to check the platform (it shows it as soon as the inbound service comes in) and therefore I can wait on the ramp and the second it is announced I am first on. No bun fighting required :)
Given the disruption there could be a late...
True but how much of the disruption to national rail services was caused by incidents a way outside of London (and the trains having longer distances to travel and therefore more likely to be caught behind something somewhere)? Also OHLE must be a much bigger pain in the rear end.
That said...
I'm sure it is a complex topic but how plausible are repairs to small lengths of OHLE where a tree has brought it down? Is it something that can be patched up or do large stretches need to be replaced?
Warning. The following video contains reasonable members of the public discussing railway delays caused by an act of nature.

I struggle to believe anyone really believes the TOCs would rather not run anything than get as much going as safely possible. And those saying some stuff can run yes it can, and they are starting to - but it takes time to check all lines to see which ones are safe to open not to mention then...
All govia websites are effectively down, NRE keeps having intermittent downtime. Glad I gave up hope and decided to work from home, trying to get reliable info this morning is proving difficult. Twitter would be ok if southeastern weren't trying to placate everyone asking the questions answered...
Interestingly I've been on a return Tonbridge to Victoria journey today (both services starting / terminating Ramsgate) and the out was routed via Beckenham Junction and the return via the Catford loop.
You can pick them up in advance and turn up 30 mins before departure if you so wish. If you are passing by STP before the CC expires then it would also solve your problem.
Big problem in places like Clapham Junct. or London Bridge is the shear number of phones in a small area. There just isn't enough bandwidth to go round so the airwaves just get very clogged up. Some micro cells and spectrum management can help but physics is against them.
Quickly back to guard dispatching from last DOO station, surely by doing this if the guard had been stranded at a previous station at least the driver couldn't continue into a non-DOO area once he realised the guard wasn't dispatching? And in this case would have removed the problem altogether.
