    If an HST is a 253/4 unit surely it should carry a 253xxx/254xxx unit number, can anyone supply a current list of numbers? If not then they're loco + stock.

    Hydro kinetic brakes were necessary to stop from high speed without overheating the regular brakes and the tilt was necessary to maintain the high speed so I reckon you're wrong on both counts there. :wink:

    But that's necessary for what they do, 92s need the redundancy in case of a failure in the tunnel and the 373s need the power to reach their top speed and provide enough oomph in one half set if the other half goes bang.
