    Oyster tube service delay refund

In the past TfL would refund the value of your Oyster fare if the tube service was suspended or so seriously delayed that you had to take an alternative means of transport. However a recent Oyster tube service delay refund was rejected. I had taken the bus instead of taking the tube having...

Chiltern Railways to Kenilworth and Coventry?

Given Chiltern's appetite for new rail services and routes, what is the likelihood of a new Coventry-London Marylebone service via the new station at Kenilworth when it opens? Such a service would provide an affluent area around Kenilworth with a direct train service to London in much the same...

Euston peak trains lengthened on London Midland from 5th October

Some of the new 350s are being introduced earlier than the December timetable change to reduce peak crowding on London Midland into/out of Euston. London Midland's Euston services featured heavily in the DfT's recently released top ten most overcrowded services in Spring and Autumn 2013...

My proposal for extension of Birmingham City Line to Alrewas

I would interested to know thoughts on extending the Birmingham City Line further north from its current terminus at Lichfield Trent Valley to a reopened station at Alrewas which could serve both the village and the National Memorial Arboretum which has around 300,000 visitors a year...

Government pledges money for improved Lincoln-Nottingham service

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-29391904 Not sure what impact this will have on the timetable or if extra trains are required and where they will come from!

New Greater Anglia Cambridge - Stansted Airport service

How are the loadings on the new Mon-Fri off-peak service? As it is not evenly spaced with the existing XC hourly service, is it just running empty?

    Saturday Poole/Weymouth allocations

0905 London Waterloo - Weymouth service was only 5 coaches and very heavily loaded yesterday with standing between Clapham Junction and Christchurch. Is that usual? 10 coaches would have been more appropriate for a summer Saturday in the school holidays. From what I could see the...

    Overcrowding Ashford-Brighton service

1047 Eastbourne to Brighton service was full and standing leaving Eastbourne yesterday, people left behind on the platform, no chance of boarding for those at Polegate. The two carriage service is a joke, especially when the gap with the hourly stopper from Eastbourne to Brighton is not evenly...

    Saturday 442 Eastbourne diagrams

Some unusual summer only services operated by 2x442 between Victoria and Eastbourne on Saturdays. Outbound in the morning 0822 non stop Eastbourne to Brighton and then continues at 0851 non-stop to London Victoria arrving at 0956. Returns to Eastbourne direct from Victoria leaving at 1721...

Cross Country Trains Sunday service to Guildford

Does anyone know the purpose of extending roughly hourly Cross Country Trains from Reading to Guildford during the daytime on Sundays from 26 October? Not clear why the service starts on that date or whether they will be well used. Would an improved FGW service on the North Downs Line on...

DMU/EMU units poorly utilised on their current duties

For a number of reasons services are allocated inappropriate rolling stock which could be used elsewhere to benefit the rail network as a whole. Such examples include DMUs operating wholly under the wires (part operation has been covered in another thread), longer trains operating on branch...

    Most overcrowded train services?

Not all are officially recorded, particularly those operating off-peak or against the flow of commuter traffic into the big cities. Any ideas?

1937 Stratford on Avon to Leamington Spa Saturday diagram

What happens to the class 165 unit operating this service after it terminates at Leamington Spa at 2017? It departs southbound as ECS but not sure where to or if it forms another service?

    Carr Mill station reopening?

Any news about whether this station will be built? Seems like an obvious case for reopening with a large residential hinterland stretching out to Haydock and a soon to be electrified service to Liverpool and Wigan.

How well are the TPE services from Scotland loading at Preston and Wigan southbound on their new route? Much new business at Wigan NW?

    Maidstone East line platform extensions

When will all platforms on the Maidstone East line be extended to take 8 carriage trains? It seems a waste to have 6 carriage 465/466 combinations occupying peak hour slots into Victoria when they could be 8 carriages once the platforms are extended. Are these trains particularly overcrowded...

Today's Railways: 319s to operate Liverpool-Manchester via Chat Moss

A small article in this month's Today's Railways suggests that deliveries of new Class 377s to Southern will allow other Class 377 units to transfer to First Capital Connect which will allow 6 319 units to transfer to Northern to operate the electric service between Manchester and Liverpool in 2014.

    Class 456 for Ascot-Guildford line

Reported in Modern Railways that the service will be operated by Class 456 units once they are transferred to SWT. Presumably through services to/from Waterloo via Richmond will end with those services starting and terminating at Reading instead. Will two cars be enough for usual demand?
