Collecting pre-paid tickets from East Coast FastTicket machines

Unfair contract terms, I think. I wonder if their lawyers read this over. We let you down, but you have to pay more.

New Conditions Of Carriage (May 2012)

So it applies from 20th May, but is "not in the public domain yet". So anyone who has pre booked tickets for 20th may onwards, which they have been encouraged to do, is not aware of the conditions of those tickets? Likewise season ticket holders have a change in mid ticket? Unfair contract terms...

    Southend Airport

Hmm, don't get this. Either the airport is a legitimate sales outlet - as many travel agents etc are - with all its ATOC accreditation, and therefore tickets they correctly issue must be accepted by any TOC, or its forging tickets and they should not be - which obviously would be very illegal?

Problem trying to get a Season Ticket changeover

I encountered this a while ago. First option would be to turn up with a copy of the NRCOC and highlight the relevant section - para 37. Point out they are not at liberty to ignore the conditions in there and ask why they think they can? If that fails exchange your ticket at the non...

    Fareham-Thatcham-London-Fareham

In theory should be able to buy from any station, but in practice to avoid possibility of confused or unhelpful staff I'd pre-order on internet and collect from any of the stations on route. Thought I'd get that comment in now as Wintonian may well be otherwise occupied judging from last post!

    Fareham-Thatcham-London-Fareham

How about an Off Peak (as priced by FGW) travel card from Basingstoke route any at £17.50, start short on the outward Reading to Paddington and covers you for return via Waterloo (as long as you stop at Basingstoke).

    Weekend 1st on a Monday?

Last year, when returning from Dundee to London on a bank holiday, I attempted to upgrade and was told that as first class was "busy" I could not. As unfortunately EC now don't allow pre booking of the supplement no other option.

    Eurostar: not using outbound

I've been in this situation in the past and checked with Eurostar Customer Services by email who confirmed there is no problem using the return only without using the outward journey. And indeed there was no problem.

    Season Ticket Discount

The route from Winnersh direct is priced by SWT, via Reading by FGW. So you are entitled to the discount as you hold the via Reading ticket. I recently renewed my season ticket for another FGW priced route at a SWT station. When the clerk refused the discount for various made up reasons, I...

    Virgin Seat Reservation Chaos

"Some people don't like the alternative systems used in Europe. " When you get on a TGV, there are no reservations out, as they are mandatory. But you can get one from a machine, even a few minutes before it leaves, and at intermediate stations as well. Its non chaotic. What we have got here...

    The Manual

Well, but surely not in its entirety, or as logically structured, judging by the number of times quotes from the manual pop up here to resolve issues? And also, again based on quotes here, sometimes the manual and national rail conflict, raising that interesting legal issue that if you don't...

    Glasgow-Dundee via Shotts?

The "advance" Glasgow - Dundee also works if you put in via Bathgate, or via Shotts. The ticket does not actually state the route, and you only get a reservation for the Edinburgh - Dundee section.

Unpaid Fare Notice - Newcastle - Edinburgh 8/10/11 - Advice Please?

This potentially could also hinge on what the departure screen on the platform said, as if it was not clear this was the late train (as sometimes happens, you are waiting at the right platform, your train is on the screen, and then a few minutes before another train comes through - the screen...

Valid reasons for NOT Using a Ticket Machine

Pretty sure some SNCF machines permit staff tickets to be bought, but do need a number to be entered before it is allowed.

    Platform Tickets

I think I recall reading that there is only an obligation on a TOC to issue these where a station is in a penalty fare zone. That was a while back, so could have changed. General experience is that some stations will just wave you on if you are clearly seeing someone off, but others are grumpy.

    Confusing fares in kent

For the record, Gold Card discounts are valid on HS1, but for quite a while the southeastern web booking page did not apply them correctly. Just had a quick look and it seems to be applying the discount correctly now.

    Leicester to Milton Keynes

"Does anyone know if any rail tickets are valid on the X5 at all?" I think the rail tickets valid on the x5 were withdrawn when the x5 stopped serving Oxford station.

Leighton Buzzard to "London Terminals" (West Brompton)

I don't have a recent avantix, but there used to be (about 3 years ago last time I looked) a specific fare Milton Keynes (but not Leighton Buzzard) - Victoria and Waterloo route Clapham Junction. I never managed to get it to come up in any of the journey planners.

Basingstoke - Theale Offpeak Day RTN

In any case, not all Basingstoke - Reading and Reading - Theale services stop at Reading West, so in many cases the fastest journey requires you to go via Reading (main). Journey planners often support this which makes the journey valid.

ScotRail Flexipass Troubles - Quick help please!

Fair point on the group station thing. However, if Edinburgh means Edinburgh Waverley (alone) and CraigP has used his ticket with scotrails blessing from Haymarket, then its not a huge jump for him to also think its OK to use it at Edin Park? I'm talking reasonable, not what those with an...
