Good Morning,

A couple of weeks ago to travel after 1000 am on Friday 12 August. I bought an Off Peak Rtn from Earlsfield EAD to Ramsgate using my Gold Card to get a discount, on that journey I travelled via CLJ and Lon VIC, and returned Via Waterloo East. The fare was £ 20.95 via any permitted and had the + sign allowing use on LUL! (I know If I had said I was going via VIC/WAT, it would of been slightly cheaper, but I forgot, no matter)........On the return train, I did ask the ticket inspector if in fact I could of used HS1 to ST.P and he said yes, which surprised me as I did not think Gold Card reductions were valid on HS1.

Anyway yesterday, Sat 27 August, I wanted to travel EAD to Margate this time and I wanted to try out HS1 and was issued with EAD Margate off peak return via any permitted route and with the + symbol, the cost was £ 23.55. (I thought Margate and Ramsgate were infact the same fare from London) I travelled to WAT then LUL via Ox Cir to St.P, then HS1 to Sittingbourne (Where I broke my Journey to travel on the Sittingbourne/Kemsley Steam Railway), I then travelled via Faversham to Margate, had lunch and travelled direct Margate to St.P on the HS1 and then back to Waterloo and EAD. My tickets were accepted by the inspectors ok and the automatic gates except for some reason at ST.P SER platform 13, but the gateman let me through, it was fine coming back there though. I just wondered why I was changed differents fares for a similar journey.? Tks Steve.

PS If you get the chance to go on the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, SKLR, do so, it is a great little line.

According to Avantix, only +Any permitted fares are given for EAD to Ramsgate, while both +Any permitted and +Not valid on HS1 fares are given for EAD to Margate. I'm not sure why.

For the record, Gold Card discounts are valid on HS1, but for quite a while the southeastern web booking page did not apply them correctly. Just had a quick look and it seems to be applying the discount correctly now.

The barriers at STP reject most any permitted tickets from SWT land to Kent despite them being valid as they are mostly routed "+ any permitted" Teh gate staff have always let me through with no hassle and the guards have no issue either.
