With XC the tickets are not excessed, instead you buy the replacement ticket (through the Amend Booking option), and are then refunded for the original ticket. So TVM collection is fine as it's a new ticket.

Can you not just buy the ticket to start at Abbey Wood? The T&C's state:
"Tickets valid to the 13 destinations above from London stations (zones 1-6) served by Southeastern".

The trick to avoid the 'herds of commuters' is to walk along platform 13 (which is not physically closed), and make use of the overbridge to access 14 & 15.
I also think TfL could do with removing the glass sections at the entrance to platforms 14&15 which prevent full width use of the platform...
Tap in at the barriers at Waterloo tube, and tap out at the standalone readers at City Airport DLR (at the bottom of the escalators).
No intermediate taps required at Canning Town, and just do the same in reverse on the way back.
Can I also query the annual leave situation, the ASLEF site says five weeks plus twelve floating days. How do the five weeks work, are they in blocks that rotate each year and can be moved about to suit the individual if the quota for the desired block has not been filled?
For the ELL it's possible to briefly get up to 60mph (linespeed) between Anerley and Norwood Junction. Very very occasionally, a train may run at 70mph between Sydenham and New Cross Gate if it's switched onto the fast (misses out intermediate stations). Very rare though.

I tried at the Barking c2c ticket office (as that's a station listed on the RSTL release) but was advised they couldn't do it; was told to go to a tube station. At Upton Park the CSA found three priv options to choose from, but wasn't sure which was correct so didn't proceed.
