As a local with a good understanding of transport the only problem i think is the path to the Day Rover and Explorer tickets could be clearer on the machines.
Must say I have been impressed with Virgin and its contingencies.
I was able to get my train from Euston one hour earlier, it arrived in Runcorn on time. Coaches waiting outside the station and arrived in Liverpool 10 minutes before my booked train was supposed to arrive. Would have been...
I think they offer great value compared to the Megarider/Buzzfare/Saver rate in same areas. A Sunderland Megarider is £12.30. For an extra £1.20 I can use any Go North East, Arriva or Stagecoach bus in the same area with a Smartzone ticket.
There are many small/rural communities up and down the land that have a relatively decent service purely as they are situated between two busy places on good bus routes.
But, how do you best serve the places that are "off the beaten track" for want of a better phrase? Costs/Dead mileage are...
Chelmsford has an excellent travelshop at the bus station operated by First, which also doubles as a tourist info. Apart from Colchester its the only place of I am aware of in Essex you can just walk in and pick up a timetable
That VTEC Sunderland service has a knack of being caped at Newcastle when a delay occurs. Ironiclly its canceled between Newcastle to Sunderland tonight because of the stricken GC Sunderland train......
Well I am going on 4 month with a delay repay with VTEC, called them today. They said it was "resolved" in December and then told me they didn't send me the letter as they had a problem printing them.
I'll chalk that one down as a one off. My previous delay repay was sorted in 4 days!!!
In addition, the only way to access the Borders Railway from North Middleton and nearby is by the X95 bus"
Yes, I wonder what the problem is here... ..
I think Its in safe hands with Go Ahead to be fair.
Stagecoach would have done ok but I imagine completion authorities would have been in there like a shot. Least it isn't ARRIVA or First
Oh god, not another Stenning job. I would get back to something a bit more "local" with the strapline "brought to you by Stagecoach"
This is the opposite to what they are wanting to do though!!
It's an interesting point re Municipals. I've read rumblings from Notts and Derby based political types that they want control over buses as part of devolution.
They don't realise that NCTX (and Trent) will then be in the same boat as Stagecoach etc. The law of unintended consequences ..
