At Bidston there is room for a dedicated platform on the south side of the station. By doing that trains for Wrexham would not affect the line. At Wrexham central extend the line along the original route putting stations at Hightown halt and Marchwiel where they were originally then continuing...
There are potential plans for a freight terminal to be built on the old works site. so it would not be a waste of time putting in a line there. If the terminal goes ahead then it would reopen the line across the ship canal. see https://railfuture.org.uk/display2302
One line that should be reopened is the line from West Timperley to Partington. A new Station at Partington on the original site then a new station at west Timperley by the Broadheath community hall and Turnbull road. Rebuilding Baguley station just west of Brooks drive. Rebuilding Northenden...
Its all well and good getting HS2 to Crewe but there is a bottleneck for trains going north. The line drops from 4 lines to 2. The route north needs to be 4 lines. It goes from 4 to 2 then back to 4 then to 2. these gaps of 2 lines need to be made4 removing the bottleneck.
One solution which would benefit the Airport and Piccadilly station would be. Build a new line from just north of Mobberley station and run underground under the airport and create a new underground station linked to the existing one then run out and link with the existing line and onward to...
If they are going to demolish the campus buildings. There needs to be in place an order to prevent them building next to the line leaving enough room for the tracks to be quadrupled.
Biggerisbetter your ideas do not create any more paths along the Castlefield corridor. Its more paths that is needed. One way that might help is another line starting from the east of Piccadilly station and running to the southern side of platform 12 and rejoining the line further down...
There is another option. There used to be a chord just east of Piccadilly (Ardwick junction I think) It swung north over Ashton old road and joined up with the line at midland junction the line diverges at Philips Park junction and from there you can get to Victoria station. If this chord was...
The 2 bay platforms are about 90 ish and 80 meters long bay 2 80M could be extended by about 30M as could bay 1. But there is no crossover from the north bound line into the bays. As going to Chester it would need the short bit of single line redoubling. Thinking on the points south of the bay...
It will be interesting to see if they can cope with winter conditions in Cumbria and southern Scotland. These trains have been built as light weight will they get traction in snow and ice?
A HS2 service to Scotland is not going to work most of the line is dual (1 up 1 down) HS2 train will get stopped by an all stations stopping passenger or a slow freight. People have great ideas but dont see the problems. Its the same with the route to Liverpool 2lines.
