4 day closure of ECML south of Peterborough

Presumably Thameslink tickets on the Peterborough route are being accepted at Bedford or Cambridge. I haven't seen any mention of that

FT reporting Government about to reopen rail contracts with Operators: how could this be achieved?

Part of me expects all operators to be given nice long contracts with expensive break clauses, just so any incoming Government can do very little about it

    Safety equipment damaged in cab

I'm on the 1P92 from King's Cross to Peterborough, former of 2x 387. The driver has announced, before departure, that some "equipment is damaged in the cab; safety equipment" and therefore we won't be stopping at St Neots. What piece of equipment could this be? I wondered if it was the outside...

How could Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) services be improved/extended?

I've also been on a 375 that due to some kind of incident was routed that way in the morning from Medway to Victoria

East West Rail: Bedford - Cambridge will it ever get built?

I reckon there would be 4 platforms on the ECML in case the slows are shut for engineering work or other diversions. I also imagine the peak time Great Northern Kings Cross - Peterborough services would also stop there

"[Train Company] Apologizes for the Delay/Cancellation"

I'd love to hear what those messages are (or even what the text of them says!)

East Coast Mainline - Spotting Points

New Zealand Footbridge in Sandy is a good place. It has a low metal barrier very close to the slow lines, and is on a shallow curve, meaning trains can be seen from some distance in the north. Free parking nearby too or a 30min walk from the station (mostly along the railway). I've been there...

    What’s going on with Thameslink?

Two consecutive cancellations today at Sandy, the 0756 and 0826. Therefore all crammed on a very busy (full and standing) 8-car 387 that's now stopping (but not at Finsbury Park for useful connections...). LNER member of staff opposite doesn't look too impressed.

    What’s going on with Thameslink?

And the one after mine this morning, and my Peterborough service from Blackfriars this evening. Make that 5 delay claims in the 4 days. Aaaand at Finsbury Park we were told to get on a GN service that was stopping, initially not at Sandy or Arlesey, then announced to be so ("confirmed by...

    What’s going on with Thameslink?

Today the train before mine was cancelled in the morning so it was much busier on the Peterborough route. Coming home, the Welwyn train cancelled from Denmark Hill, and also the Peterborough one cancelled too. So far that makes 4 delay repay claims on the 3 days I've travelled this week. Who...

ECML Disruption 08/08/22 - Hay on the line at Biggleswade

I was on a Peterborough service that terminated at Finsbury Park after waiting there for a good half an hour or so. Advised to get on the next Cambridge service, which was very busy. Got slower and slower, later and later. A long queue forming south of Welwyn, as one platform seemed occupied...

Southern, Thameslink & Great Northern 'Not On Strike' Details

What I can't work out is why on the Wednesday there appears to be 3tph to/from Sandy towards London, the two normal TL Horsham services, plus one to King's Cross. This appears to be in addition to the peak-time GN fasts. Edit: and on the Friday

    The All-Stations route maps

Weirdly, it's in purple, whereas the Overground is in the normal blue: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/Blue%20route%20ASandMetro%20map%20v24.pdf

Crossrail - operating discussion and opening day 24th May

I thought that too. The escalators at Liverpool Street also felt very steep

Same destination, same departure time, same train company

Not quite the same thing, but at Finsbury Park now, there's the 1746 Great Northern (Class 717) to Welwyn Garden City and on the other platform face is the 1746 Thameslink service to Welwyn Garden City (Class 700). Different operators, slightly different calling pattern, very slightly different...

    Police stopping trains?

I once witnessed the police pull up at Rainham (Kent) run on to the platform but the train was departing. They radioed about getting it at Gillingham and when I went through on the next train, it was in P1 with the doors locked shut.

Any examples of where losing/failing to gain a TOC franchise proved to be a narrow escape?

I'm not aware of this story, is there somewhere where I could read more?

Disruption to services - Storm Dudley & Storm Eunice

What I don't quite get is that Thameslink Peterborough services are pathed for the same timings tomorrow as today - even though there's a speed restriction. They do more than 50mph between Peterborough and Stevenage normally, so will be immediately delayed by the speed restriction.

Chasing a phone on the Northern Line..[now found]

What we did in the end (I'm a friend of OP) was ping the location of the phone a few times on the open northern section of the line. From that we used the API to find the arrivals for the next station and got the train ID. From that, I could tell OP what time to get to Morden in his lunch break...
