Latest RAIB report - Newcastle Central

My point is that she may well have assume it would open as this is the convention set by society. The doors are behaving at odds with what's normal.

They have been doing this for ages. Some have now been painted white!

Latest RAIB report - Newcastle Central

The guard knows better and is trained and paid to know better. Everyone makes mistakes though. It is reasonable to expect that a door will not close on your hands. This expectation is reinforced by the behaviour of other automatic doors eg lifts.

Latest RAIB report - Newcastle Central

Not sure. Would you expect a lift door to close on your hand?

How could the UK rail industry be improved?

We need to start increasing the density of our cities, so that it become viable for light rai and metro systems to be rolled out across the uk. Think Barcelona.

Why are fast services stopping more?

I hope one day they get rid of the Gatwick express. Doesn't seem a good use of scarce resources.

    Strange Southern timetable

I think they are hoping to sneak in the 2015 changes with minimum chance for people to complain. People need to know about these changes as far in advance as possible. People may need to find alternative childcare or employment. This is not quick.

Why are fast services stopping more?

But doesn't Full of passengers = success! Or have I missed something?

Why are fast services stopping more?

Yuck. These are incredibly busy stations with a lot if interchange possibilities. Why would you miss them out? The existing lack of peak services between Brighton and clapham junction is already a pain in the backside.

    Where should XC serve?

Indeed. Given that it's a short walk from kings cross to euston you don't even have to get the tube. How about Brighton - Bristol?

London Bridge Thameslink Diversions and Southern Services

I get this train often... a large proportion of passengers get on at redhill.. taking the last of the seats.

London Bridge Thameslink Diversions and Southern Services

If they hold a train it had cataclysmic knock on effects... Or so I'm told!

London Bridge Thameslink Diversions and Southern Services

I have opened a query with southern on this subject. I generally get the 0550 from Brighton and the 1627 from London bridge. I leave work tower hill at four and HAVE to be at Brighton station before 1750 in order to pick up my daughter. Hence my slightly psychopathic rage in my maiden thread. I...

    Holding the doors..

As the other thread has been deemed to be tiresome.. Is it illegal to hold the doors on a train?

Closing doors while people are boarding

I get this. Maybe another minute really would have lead to a chain reaction.. What I don't get is why the railway companies don't see it as a major cock up that people are unable to board a particular train when they have arrived in good time. The service is not frequent on this route at this...

Closing doors while people are boarding

I',m the customer and, assuming you work on the railway, you have just proved my point!

Closing doors while people are boarding

Calm down.. I'm not saying you're a bad person.. just that railway staff don't see the consumer as central to what they do.. they see them as an unfortunate obstacle to moving trains around the country.

Closing doors while people are boarding

There was room on the train but difficult to board. Given another minute and a little encouragement to get people down the aisles and plenty more could have got on. I get the argument that ultimately you have to draw a line.. but if this is the case then it should be dealt with differently...
