No.. But where is the customer service? There should be an announcement saying. Sorry we're not providing a train of the correct length. If you can't board here is a ticket for the next train and compensation. Instead younger shouted at by platform staff to get away from the train as it is...
And what is that small minority supposed to do?
Again it's a moving trains not people. I have never met anyone in a railway who believes they are in the business of providing consumers with a service. I think they need to move away from an army mentality to a waiter mentality!
Not that it really matters.. But in this case I don't think that is true. It's at least four track all the way to East Croydon with what appears to be plenty of capacity. This will be utilised by Thames link upgrade.

I imagine the practice is for the greater good. ... but for the customer it is very irritating.
No compensation offered? Why not? Why do you have to seek it out? why is their no "free bottle of wine"?
Clarification...
This was half four at London Bridge. So the train had staff on platform to dispatch. I have never got on a train at this station where it hasn't been "ready to leave" (whatever that means- it certainly doesn't seem to involve whether anyone has got on the train!) before...
FCC seems to be under the impression that they are in the business of selling tickets and moving trains.. they are not. They are in the business of transporting people!
My train on Friday was half the usual length. This in itself isn't really excusable. (spare trains anyone?), but not the end...
