222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

You're correct. The interior is down to get a rather significant re-work.

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

Given that if the current design of 2024TS is to be used on the Bakerloo. There's nowhere to lift it on the line, and nowhere to put a suitable lifting road without reducing depot capacity. Something more significant than, "Just swap them over." needs to be done.

Could RAIB's reliance on the On-Train Monitoring Recorder (OTMR) data for the impact speed be wrong?

I suppose that the level of damage to the front end at Grayrigg wouldn't be able to be used as evidence to support that the RAIB knows what they're on about?

Cemetery buses - is Merseytravel 129 the last survivor?

I'm going to assume that Southern Cemetery Bus Station in South Manchester wouldn't count...? The 111 to Southern Cemetery via Yew Tree Road might though?

    SSR resignalling

That usually means, “Something the shop floor has been warning about for ages but all levels of Managment have plenty of sand to bury their heads into and ignore it until go live day when it won’t happen due to the aforementioned reason.”

Dft tender £350m for advice and consultancy etc

Conversely, smaller companies need to spend a higher proportion of their staff-hours handling mandatory compliance paperwork that doesn't scale with number of employees, or doesn't scale well with number of employees. ISO9001 compliance processes, and all of the joyful industry associations and...

    Doncaster Wabtec- What's Next??

Given this was the fate of the first part of Doncaster Works to close. You’re very likely correct.

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Since when are LSL ever “not stupid” with money?

    London tram replacement updates

One can ensure that the technical evaluation includes all of the required key factors so long as they are declared at the start of the tender. Also known as. So long as they know what the want at the beginning of the tender process. For TfL, this can be somewhat challenging.

People obtaining railway keys and breaking into cabs

It has of course slid into the pile of, "Well, we've let a contract for it, and now the contractor is being slow." The initial requirements included some very unrealistic requirements. And of course, any form of Card Access system will usually bring more problems than in solves. So it would do...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

The primary reason is most likely... Doors are too complicated and no-one really understands how they work any more, the knowledge is held behind layers and layers or intellectual property rights that no-one will share and the equipment layers all come with their own issues.

    1992 stock Refurbishment?

A lot of very skilled people have left TfL in the last 10 years thanks to various “transformation” schemes… “irritating” people over the last 15. But the continued arrogance and lack of foresight will keep resulting in unknown unknowns and lack of knowledge on the availability of competent labour

Is money no object for large corporations?

And why would they use an old train linked to political questionability when they can just invoke private jets and/or a fleet of helicopters, cars and luxury coaches that can go anywhere? Some may be overestimating the ability of luxary train travel to be sold in the UK today.

HS2 loss of ATO - what are the ramifications?

No impact at all. It was never going to be ATO other than in the musings of optimisim of a political industry “expert” trying to sell their products. Nowhere in the world has ATO High Speed, and there’s nothing preventing a competent driver on clear track having the rules available to...

    London tram replacement updates

And even then the Ex. Bergen trams are wired completely differently because they were converted from single ended to double ended before delivery. The first is perticularly different having essentially being complete before the 2nd cab was fitted

HS2 could cost up to £102.7bn and trains won't start until at least 2036

Just to weigh in on the consultant bashing. A consultant will deliver what they’re told to. If what they’ve been asked to do is wrong or stupid, even if they tell the customer it will go wrong if they do that, they’ll be told to shut up and deliver what they’re told.

    LUL Substations

The majority of "Sub Stations" that include Transformer-Rectifiers have their Transformer-Rectifiers connected at 11kV. Very few in my time were 22kV direct Transformer-Rectifiers, even on the VLU (Victoria Line Upgrade) substations. There's a lot more than the maps there indicate, and for...

cab views on YouTube, TfL official

It's not a TOD on the Victoria Line, it's a PDP (Primary Display Panel). And they're quite different, given the Victoria Line is fixed block signalling rather than "Moving Block" (which isn't actually moving block) on the Northern and Jubilee. IMO it's much better on the Victoria Line than the...
