Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

Nothing at all to do with Northern wanting rid of a maintenance liability?

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

Also not helped by the indecision on what to actually do with the 350/2s before going to Northern. Will be interesting to see what actually does happen before they find their new home.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

The cooling systems were very much shoehorned in

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

It doesn’t. It lines the pockets of the banks taking the “risk”.

    Future of the 350/2s

When platform extensions are of the minimum length to do what’s needed this time rather than spending a marginal extra amount to take them to a notional “sensible” length during lengthening projects. Yes. Under the guise of “value engineering” tiny savings will be made on a job needing a full...

    Future of the 350/2s

And yet no-one is rushing to retrofit batteries to old EMUs to take advantage of this rapidly improving technology. After the turntide batteries on the 802 which may or may not still be fitted (I'm no longer in position to give a... <insert your own words here>), and numerous ideas for...

    Future of the 350/2s

I feel that I need to just quote my own posts on this matter now.

    Future of the 350/2s

It’s not Porterbrook’s scepticism. It’s also not the country’s problem if a private company made a business decision to price their leases in such a way that it was cheaper to raise debt for new assets than to retain those already leased.

    Future of the 350/2s

How many times does one need to repeat that for various reasons, battery converting the 350/2 is not a plan that is likely to work…?

GWR - Hot breakfast roll trial in first

“Some trains” is such a good way to plan your morning… If you want to eat, you’ll need to have done so at home or buy something yourself and then surprise, you do get fed on your 1st class ticket for once…

Network Rail Class 950 to be disposed

So no different to the majority of the 153s “replacing” it with daylight able to be seen through the steelwork?

Driving technique: Does it really impact fuel usage?

Except it won’t because it’s also to “enable more efficient timetables” by making trains drive harder. Also one needs to account for the fact that humans are not good at driving to continuously moving targets.

    Dangerous doors on the 1992TS

Not TMS on 1992TS but is only triggered by the doors close train wires driven by the active cab.

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

In total or per unit length…?

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

    Thameslink or Crossrail…

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

72TS has had “Corrosion Repairs” and “RVAR” (and LED Lighting) Neither were treated as a refurbishment which as you say was last done in the 90s.

Could RAIB's reliance on the On-Train Monitoring Recorder (OTMR) data for the impact speed be wrong?

Perhaps… but they did state the FFCCTV showed the protecting signal at danger.

Should trains have yellow rear ends to reduce collisions?

But that would be a different budget… In reality. It seems we may have been trapped by the ever present. “But ETCS is coming soon to fix that.”

Should trains have yellow rear ends to reduce collisions?

Then the answer it seems is simple. Fit a TPS grid to every signal to act as a train stop for any SPAD.

222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

That won’t help with a phone signal. Some form of nano cell would be a better solution than relying on the doubtless “sign in here” data farming WiFi we seem to be fitting to all trains nowerdays. Also will be interesting to see how a Starlink tile will be fitted to the roof and remain in gauge.
