Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

I assume the plan is “GBR will fix it.” Without any real detail behind it because the fluff never leads to commitment anyway.

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

Just because the old one was OK doesn’t mean the new one can’t be better. Nice tread plate on it too

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

The amount of times this sentiment has been stated. Yet every time lessons are quickly forgotten due to pressure from senior management and/or those who do know, not being heeded by senior management or just leaving.

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

So TfL are paying the Americans to do a feasability study that will tell them what they already knew 10 years ago. I feel like a slow clap for government efficiency is coming on.

    LUL Substations

That is the aim. But given the oversight and decision paralysis that seems to have fallen on all control rooms recently, I've not seen it achieved for a while.

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

Very very recently then. Was only there a few weeks back. I strongly suspect that it would result in paying in cash or refusing the charges… Hopefully not the latest round of *insert words here* in Germany making things worse.

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

Never had any of this kind of thing in Berlin, Munich or any of the other German or Austrian places I’ve been… Perhaps I don’t go to tourist-ey places?

Air India crash at Ahmedabad on flight towards Gatwick - 12/06/2025

Without reading all of the way through the thread. Is there a means for the switches to routinely or non routinely operate without the direct hand on the switch method one would usually accept? Such as a magnetic trip within the switch. And if so, what is this connected to?

Wheelchair passengers should be able to travel for free

Fortunately not any more. It does seem to (in the case of short trains) come down to the DfT or whoever dictating that trains need a certain capacity for Passengers of Limited Mobility including Wheelchairs, and including retrospectively applying this to existing fleets, but then stops short...

Wheelchair passengers should be able to travel for free

So… mental health issues are not a disability and those on Motability are scamming…?

    Travelling with a disabled persons.

Fuel. And... Down Payment Damage Charges Insurance Excesses "Admin Fees" for things that used to be free. Any mileage over 10,000 per year at a now extortionate rate. The cheapest WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) by the way is £3795 down payment. For something you could realistically use...

Should the railway engage in vanity projects, such as the recent Pendolino at Paddington?

It will have been more than 0p. This makes it too much.

Wheelchair passengers should be able to travel for free

How are you classifying "Limited Mobility"? Basic PIP Mobility Component Entitlement? or Claimant? Enhanced PIP Mobility Component Entitlement? or Claimant? Blue Badge Eligable? Disabled Railcard Eligable? "Registered Disabled"? (This doesn't exist any more). Disabled Entitlement Gold Card...

Should the railway engage in vanity projects, such as the recent Pendolino at Paddington?

This of course begs the question. Why bother?

Should the railway engage in vanity projects, such as the recent Pendolino at Paddington?

I hope this phrase is remembered when there isn't money to do critical work, or there "wasn't enough money" to address an issue that resulted in another accident.

Should the railway engage in vanity projects, such as the recent Pendolino at Paddington?

So we have expensive vanity projects again rather than focusing the time and money on making the railway actually work?

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Likely the challenge in getting them started again if they fail in a new and unusual way.

Should TOCs abandon social media sites as a means to communicate with customers regarding disruption/service updates?

But why use anything but your own website that reaches 100% of users

Should TOCs abandon social media sites as a means to communicate with customers regarding disruption/service updates?

So rely on Meta instead of X then? What is wrong with publishing their updates to their own website and having a contact email / form?

Should TOCs abandon social media sites as a means to communicate with customers regarding disruption/service updates?

Quite. If a company is choosing somewhere to platform the information about their service, it needs to have the same barriers to entry as the use of their services. ie. None.
