    West Yorkshire bus franchising

I'm not sure if you would count The Delaine (Lincolnshire) as an SME, but imagine if their services were included in a franchise and they failed to win any Lots?

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

I'm not in the industry, but at a guess.... For big groups, each route has to pay a small contribution to the group's CEO salary (which is probably 10 times the salary of the small owner,) plus there is the cost of HR departments (rhe small owner may do his own HR), H&S etc etc likewise. Also...

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

And some employees prefer working for a small company where the managing director knows everyone And some passengers enjoy seeing the same familiar drivers - it has been known for drivers to be concerned where a regular passenger has not turned up and alerted the relevant authorities. A small...

    National Express Coaches Discussion

I wonder if Nat Ex had not been sold to Mobico whether the outcome would have been different? If the coach division was suffering, would they have tried to innovate to regain their market, or just write it off without trying, leaving essentially only the West Midlands buses in the company...

Sometimes you need to operate loss leaders on order to grow the market. How did Flixbus get a foothold if it didn't initially run at a loss?

    Summer staffing issues

And don't forget teachers can only take their vacations during the school summer holidays. I thought that once my children had left school, we would no longer be tied to school holidays, but my son went and married a teacher!

    Paying a GWR penalty notice

The following lists examples we have seen of Penalty Fares not being issued correctly: Posters at stations not showing the precise wording required by the legislation The wrong station quoted where the PF was issued The wrong station quoted as the destination rather than the next station The...

Derailment at Wickford - Friday 14th August 2026

But 10 mins delay on one journey leads to a delayed start for the return journey, and more delays on the return etc etc.

    Paying a GWR penalty notice

Unless you are in danger of running out of time, I would not pay the fine yet, but wait for advice from this forum. But please, we do need to see the Penalty Fare paperwork.

    Paying a GWR penalty notice

If the Penalty Farre was not completed correctly, that would be grounds for an appeal. But we do need to see thre paperwork, with personal details redacted A misspelt name will not be a valid reason for an appeal

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

I imagine Siemen's production lines are booked months and years in advance, with components being sourced in line with the needs of the production line. If you pause the TfL trains, a contract for another operator can't just jump the queue to keep production lines running.

Derailment at Wickford - Friday 14th August 2026

Maybe the wheels at the front weakened or dislodged the track, and the rear wheels bore the consequences?

    London Buses Discussion

If I was a passenger, I would not lle to sit beside a blank wall and not be able to see out. If they are beside the disabled spaces, then wheelchair users would nit have any option but to sit there. Not very welcoming.
