I was on a Nova 3 yesterday which overshot the platform at Stalybridge leaving only the 68 reachable from the platform. Took the driver ages to get out , climb onto the platform and walk to the 68 to reverse the train into the station again.
I might be wrong but isn’t Craigentinny one of the depots looking after the TPE 802s? If that’s the case then you can see why extending the Liverpool to Newcastle services to Edinburgh was a good idea.
It’s not a great walk though. In fact Manchester City Centre can be very unwelcoming at times. The section between Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly Station is particularly unwelcoming IMHO.
Not sure if the new EMUs are for Liverpool or to allow Liverpool to go to 2 per hour.
They might be souped up commuter units like 350s and used on Brum to Euston for example to release Pendos.
I believe it’s 13 x Bi Mode sets and 10 x electric sets to come. They have 20 x 221s currently but a few of those run doubled up which wouldn’t be necessary with newer longer sets (unless they go for 5 cars like everyone seems to be).
Win for First.

Refurbishment of Pendolino fleet and replacement of Voyager fleet with 13 new BiModes sets. They also mention ten new electric sets...
I’m just back from probably what is my worst ever journey on the WCML. I’ve just been baked at over 40 degrees on the 1420 Pendolino from Euston to Manchester for nearly 4 hours. Apparently the air con was broken and they tried to fix it before deciding they couldn’t and sending it out anyway...
I like the pendolinos however I wish they had a power socket at every seat rather than just the tables. Sick of everyone running at Euston and then cramming round tables when usually there are plenty other seats free.
Also the WiFi is shocking, and the fact phones are next to useless when...
I will absolutely miss Virgin Trains when they go. I travel on a weekly basis between Manchester and London and have enjoyed the vast majority of my journeys.
I am big fan of Virgin though, I love the way they try to make things a bit more fun than the drearily boring other TOCs like Abellio...
