    Improved deal for football fans

.........and the farce of Easter Sunday when there is a normal Sunday service, but no football, sport and no shops open, so very little reason to travel. I'm sure everyone within the industry can come to an agreement to 'swap' Easter Sunday working for Boxing Day

    Durham Coast + Horden/Peterlee - time for a revamp?

Hartlepool to Durham could still be done direct via Norton east/west and onto the ECML !!

    Completely Empty Trains

Pre Grand Central, on a Sunday, travelled Kings Cross - Darlington. Changed for the Hartlepool terminator and I was the only passenger/customer all the way, so literally had the full service to myself (could that be a new thread)?

Best sited stations for town/city centre.

Hartlepool is ok with the shopping centre (sic) within view and less than 5 minutes walk. Likewise the football ground and the inevitable Wetherspoons a minutes walk away which on a Saturday is full of groups in 'party' mode catching a Grand Central to York. Worst and most laughable thing is...

Virgin trains to have special carriages for football fans

https://flic.kr/p/e3PSqq And what a football special this would be, just like it was on Boxing Day 1967 ..........but oh no could never happen, not on Boxing Day when there is a full fixture list with thousands of fans not needing the railways!!!

    Paddington to Birmingham services

I can distinctly remember Warships working from Marylebone on Birmingham trains in the early 70's. Diverted from Paddington due to some work giong on there

    Hartlepool Up Line

The up platform was taken out of use in the 80's and all passenger traffic has since used the down platform. The footbridge was removed in the 90's. I'm just curious as to why in the last few weeks all up freight traffic is now using the down line?

    Hartlepool Up Line

I've noticed that the up line through the disused platform at Hartlepool is now well rusted and becoming weed overgrown. Can't have been used for quite a while now. I thought this was a bit of a bottleneck and I believe Grand Central were making noises about regenerating the platform for...

    'Parliamentary' Trains

What's this ? STP 0112 0046 York Thrall Europa 2 618S ZZ York Thrall Europa 0117 0049 Something using Norton East - West and back again. There are definatley no schedued services over this bit, so is there such a thing as a non passenger Parliamentary?

    'Parliamentary' Trains

Don't think they're Parliamentaries, but the Sunday only Darlington - Hartlepool terminators are strange ones......and mostly empty. Bit off topic, but the new Durham coast timetable has a Mon - Sat Newcastle to Stockton 2N40 which continues as 5N40 to Darlington, so in effect a through...

UK's 'best and worst' railway stations named

Marylebone is a (wonderful) time warp: especially travelling from there to Birmingham Moor Street. And shows how the network has developed considering the Great Central never went anywhere near Birmingham

LMS 10000 - The Ivatt Diesel Re-creation Society

Of my remaining notes (and oh how I wish I'd kept them all), I have recorded 10001 on shed at Willesden on 23/3/1963. I can well remember them both growling past South Kenton with The Royal Scot,:'( but how I longed for a Duchess or Princess even though I had copped them all  Great memories.

bank holiday washout - fewer people travelling by train?

Been the same argument for a few years now. Virtually every shopping centre is closed and hardly any sporting fixtures, yet a normal Sunday service on Easter Sunday. However Boxing Day...............

    Hazardous loads - Freightliner

Several hundreds of tonnes of chlorine trundle across the M62 every week and countless thousands of tonnes of other nasties all around the road network. What must the paperwork be like to cover all the potential problems that may arise?
