Thanks, appreciated! It just illustrates though how easy it is to get this wrong - the number of permutations of saver, day saver, railcard, 16-18, 16-17, not to mention some of them being exactly the same price, for one single journey from Chester, is crazy.

My 17 yr old daughter (16-17 saver) bought a Chester-Spital (£3.30) last week at the Chester ticket machine. The Chester gate line attendant told her she should purchase the £2.95 child day saver in future as it would save her money, so yes, I presume it does sell the £2.95.

I can vouch for that. On more than one occasion Hamilton Square could‘t find the 16-17 saver option for my daughter, and issued her a child fare, on their own initiative, instead. I recall immediately informing their twitter team once she’d told me, in case she had problems with RPIs.

I’ve seen (Merseyrail) ticket offices more than once apply the 16-25 when asked to apply the 16-17 for family members! That’s as well as seeing my daughter book tickets on Trainline ticking 16-25 when she held 16-17… it’s a confusing product overlap.

That worked for us too but it was basically the hearing aid receipt and audiology scan that we sent in. The criteria they ask for - eg NHS battery book - just don’t exist any more.

That would certainly solve a few different problems wouldn’t it! Has it ever been mooted?

Would Heswall and Upton (Neston too even though over the boundary?) also get tap-in, tap-out? Would make ticketing to Liverpool a whole lot easier than today on the Borderlands line.

Yes, exactly re Merseyrail. Especially when actually the booking office service/knowledge is often not good at all, time after time.

Except if you are coming off a late-running Borderlands train at Bidston (for Liverpool) without a ticket (no eticket sales for the merseyrail flow, no TVMs, unstaffed stations, guard often busy), then Merseyrail expect you to queue at Bidston to buy your ticket and miss your advertised...

That was momentary excitement for the Bidston line!
