Quick question (as Merseyrail are quite literally refusing to confirm either way!) - is an anytime day return from Manchester to Spital valid via either Chester or Lime Street? No operator, peak or train restrictions on the ticket which simply says ‘any permitted’.

(Context - Spital (on the Wirral) is pretty much equidistant time-wise from Manchester Victoria (it’s a shopping trip) using the northern service to Chester or the TPE service to Liverpool - but wanted to check before a Merseyrail RPI gets their penalty fare notebook out!)

~Thankyou

Yes

Routeing points are Hooton and Liverpool, and both pass the fare check.

Hooton means Chester.

So both routes are OK.

All stations Birkenhead Central to Hooton are valid to travel either way, this came up recently. Capenhurst also because of the less than 3 miles more than the shortest route rule. See https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/routing-for-rock-ferry-to-manchester-stns.268086/#post-6778621
Many thanks - much appreciated!
