I do the Cambridge to Brighton trip quite a bit, and often come bak at weekends, when I have to transfer to GN at Kings Cross. It's always, without exception, nose to armpit.
I'm astonished they had the nerve to increase prices a few weeks ago. The French would be burning tractors over this.
London terminals is literally what the machine sells me when I ask for a BFR ticket. No other types are available.
I'll record video of it in case I ever get gripped. "I bought a ticket to Blackfriars, this is what the machine gave me, look."
Those are still a thing? Last time I asked for a day return from CBG to BFR the machine sold me a London Terminals ticket.
I assumed they had scrapped the "London Thameslink" ticket as the machine didn't offer it.
I had the most surreal experience yesterday. The 16:54 CBG - BTN ran, 35 minutes late. It ran fast to STP, missing the usual stops. The 17:14 CBG-KGX ran semi fast to compensate.
I needed to get to Moorgate and turned up at Cambridge station a few minutes before the BTN service actually left...
I wrote about this a couple of weeks ago. It's in a death spiral. They can't get drivers where they need to be, spoken they cut the service and introduce extra stops on the trains that do run.
This results in the trains they do run being late with the knock on effect that drivers aren't even...
I'm on the 10:14 CBG-KGX express. It's been pressed into service to stop at Royston, Letchworth, Hitchin and Finsbury Park.
We've just departed Hitchin. Nobody is getting on at these extra stations. I guess they've all given up.
ETA: Stopped at Stevenage too. Quite a few people got on. Now...
So I’m on the 15:28 LST-CMB. It’s full. A lot fuller than I expected. Chatting to other passengers. Lots going all the way to Cambridge. Lots saying they no longer trust Great Northern.
It’s quite a thing to behold.
Well I left Eastbourne heading for Cambridge 18 minutes ago. Looked at Haywards Heath departure board and there's nothing about Cambridge in there for at least the next two hours. Not even a "cancelled" - GTR seem to be pretending the services they want to run simply never existed.
So I guess...
Well I stayed on the south coast an extra day. Hoping to get back to Cambridge tomorrow morning after the peak. Let's see what happens. Prepared to have to get creative.
Can't speak for the other lines, but for Cambridge this could have been so easy. What they tried to do:
- replace the semi fast with the CBG - BTN service
- Add 1 CBG - KGX stopper per hour (bringing it to 2ph)
What they could have done:
- Not added the extra stopper, kept the KGX semi...
