Does anyone know if you can get a PlusBus ticket in conjunction with a Megatrain ticket? The route is London-Portsmouth, and I'd want the PlusBus for Portsmouth.

In general I've found reservations a waste of time. A lot of people don't seem to sit in their reserved seats, and having travelled on West Coast between London and Manchester / Liverpool a lot recently, it seemed fairly common for the reservation system to be down anyway. To me it just seems...

Can anyone tell me the background to the practice of reserving seats on trains heading north and west from London? As far as I know, it was never customary (or even possible) to reserve seats south of London despite there being some fairly long routes e.g. Kent coast, Bournemouth etc.

I'm hoping to get the 1648 Liverpool to Euston train this Friday but may miss it. For other times an xx04 connection is listed via London Midland changing at Crewe, then picking up the train from Chester to Euston, but the 1704 doesn't come up as a connection - does anyone know why...
