Liverpool to Euston via Crewe

I'm hoping to get the 1648 Liverpool to Euston train this Friday but may miss it. For other times an xx04 connection is listed via London Midland changing at Crewe, then picking up the train from Chester to Euston, but the 1704 doesn't come up as a connection - does anyone know why?

Nationalrail.co.uk lists the London Midland arriving in Crewe on Platform 5 at 1747 and the Chester to Euston departing Crewe at 1756 from Platform 11. Seems like a do-able connection to me, but I don't know Crewe station - are the platforms really far apart or something?

Crewe is listed as 10 minutes minimum connection time so thats probably why.

The Liverpool - Crewe xx47 arrivals often get in around xx44, and the 1756 is often delayed a couple of minutes by the 1756 LM arrival from Birmingham (which crosses its path).

The move will almost certainly be from platform 5 to 6, so just up and over the bridge, a couple of minutes at most.

In short I would say you would make this connection 99 times out of 100.

But don't rely on delay compensation if you miss the onward train becasue the railway only accept connections that adhere to minimum times, no matter how ridiculous they are.

Do it - unless there is an almighty farce you'll make it. The onwards 1756 is usually delayed for a few mins by the number of pax boarding as well. If you don't make it, its only half an hour for the 1827.

In that case you can use any service (except the peak ones which are arriving in London before 1130 southbound and departing London northbound before 0926 or between 1500 and 1845; there are NO restrictions between London Bridge and Croydon) and don't have to get worked-up about connection times.
