Does anyone have any theories as to why I was charged £3.10 for journey 2 (Hackney Wick - West Croydon)?

I had a feeling afterwards that touching out from the DLR at Stratford had been a mistake. I don't use DLR very often and get a bit confused with it.

Overground trains seemed in a right old state today, with the planned closure of part of the core. Trains from West Croydon were supposed to terminate at Shadwell, but mine (mid morning) was delayed and finished at New Cross Gate. Coming back mid afternoon, there was also a delay.

The reader on platform 17 is actually signposted from the overbridge now. I never spotted the one in the subway by the platform 17 stairs, but it's easy to miss things in that subway when it's busy, which is usually.

Provided the latecomers can be kept back from the departing train then no - it's not customer service to delay maybe hundreds for the benefit of a handful. Also 20 seconds delay at the start can easily mushroom into a far more substantial delay further into the journey.
