    Types of rail clips

I was looking at the track this morning after alighting from the train and noticed the variety of clips in use (see attached photos). I think the ‘wire’ ones are pandrol clips, but what are the spring type ones? Is the variety close together intentional or likely due to incremental replacement...

    Cambridge South new station opening

There is a scheduled ancient monument in the field. Maybe it is related to that? Maybe they are about to take the fencing down and need to mark areas of the field to avoid?

    Cambridge South new station opening

Here are some photos taken earlier this week. Things have really been coming along - much of the park has now been landscaped again, and the station roof looks complete. The forecourt can be seen to be layed out. In noticed since these were taken that some trees have been planted in front of...

Some photos from this weekend. Incremental progress continues with work visible on landscaping, platforms 1 and 4, and the main forecourt starting to take shape.

    Cambridge South new station opening

I went through and pulled what I can find from the higher resolution originals (and some that I didn't publish earlier). I agree CA142 at the south end of the station, probably over P2 (the telephoto perspective distortion is quite confusing).

    Cambridge South new station opening

Holidays over, time for an update on site as we near the end of the Christmas/New Year closure. Lots happening including a few unexpected surprises (at least for me!): As expected the new layout has been installed through Cambridge South - the points are south of addenbrookes road and north of...

    Cambridge South new station opening

Probably - but EW rail is still not approved so we would be waiting on that rather than having a station opening later this year if all goes well. As I understand it is not just a matter of cost to consider but also environmental impact (there is a scheduled ancient monument) and justifying the...

Could be the tighter radius on the curve after the junction?

    Cambridge South new station opening

As a local I'm looking forward to convenient travel from Trumpington (Cambridge South) to the Science Park area around Cambridge North. It's not my current commute but having driven it in the past a rail option would be far superior. I expect there are many that work around the Biomedical campus...

That was the plan that others have shared earlier in the thread, although that was some months ago now. I believe we are expecting the final layout for the junction, Cambridge station, and the new station.

    Cambridge South new station opening

Some photos taken today. Looks like some of the scaffolding has come down, wires have gone up through P2 and there is platform edging in place on some of the platforms. I'm sure lots more changes I didn't spot.

    Cambridge South new station opening

I am unlikely to get any photos this weekend, but I hear locally that work is ongoing on the track to the south of the station today.

Here are a few photos from this morning. Progress this week on the access path, station walls and cycle store. Work this weekend during the possession seems to be focussed on the p3/p4 track area. 1731932206 Update: looks like a signal gantry has been erected.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Consultation has been published: https://eastwestrail.co.uk/consultation2024. Looks quite comprehensive and lots to digest. I see the needs of bats are being well considered in the proposal. Initial thoughts on the Cambridge area proposals after a skim: Replacement of the existing long road...

I live in Cambridge and we got a flyer about the consultation through the post a few days ago.

Some drone photos from this morning. Lots of progress on the forecourt, and some solar panels have appeared on the island canopy. Good views of the new points mentioned above as well.

    Cambridge South new station opening

Thanks! I spent ages looking for that yesterday without success. I did find an image suggesting that the metal work was original to the bridge: https://capturingcambridge.org/queen-ediths/long-road/railway-gate-house/ This showing the 1922 layout is also...

    Cambridge South new station opening

I was able to get some photos just now of the work this weekend around the station area. There was another possession and it looks like worked continued on the island canopy plus the installation of two more sets of points on the down line either side of the station. I think that means the track...
