Qualified driver roles Woking and Farnham

I don't know much about 159, 442 or Desiro but I know that generally newer trains are much nicer to drive than 15X series despite the occasional computer problem they tend to be more comfortable, spacious, ergonomic, cleaner, quieter, faster and more private. The computer has its plus points too...

What is your earliest memory of travelling on a train?

Pacer travel on the Atherton line in the early-mid 1990's. The occasional trip on a 47-hauled service between Manchester and Bolton. Unbelievable to think back at how much more exiciting rail felt back then compared to today with the novelty well and truly worn off now.

Why are there no single or two-car EMUs?

    Because all EMU's I know of have unpowered coaches- 323 (1 out of 3) 319 (3 out of 4!) 331/0 (1 out of 3) 331/1 (2 out of 4)

Same here, I'm finding that I'm at work to mainly sit in crowded messrooms and drive the very occasional empty train

    Transport for Wales 769's

Very quiet engines, and the initial acceleration doesn't look any slower than a 319.

Why are there no single or two-car EMUs?

A single-car EMU would be fun, imagine how good the acceleration would be

TOO YOUNG to be a Driver?

I was 24 when I got the job so 20's is definetely not too young and don't see why it would be. I got the job through doing other jobs on the railway first, that really helps a lot.

    Atherton Line

The Dusty Bin's use the Atherton Line as well, so less options for freights between Wigan & Manchester if it got converted to a Tram line

Most Depressing Stretch of Line on the Network

It's so slow and boring. Goes on forever, it's only going to Chester!! Stops every 3 minutes! Used to be 142's most of the time! Loads of school kids use it in the day and loads of drunks in the evening.

Why are some train lengths so short?

They felt luxery compared to the 142's on my local branch at the time

Most Depressing Stretch of Line on the Network

For some reason Northern have started using this station a lot more: since the Dec 2019 timetable, two trains an hour stop at Hag Fold in each direction, up from the previous one. The Blackburn to Wigan now additionally stops at Hag Fold. The Kirkby to Victoria continues to stop here, as it...

Most Depressing Stretch of Line on the Network

As far as depressing lines go I'm suprised no one has mentioned Chester via Altrincham all stops

Most Depressing Stretch of Line on the Network

It is so bloody slow when it's all-stops. I worked out the average speed from one end to the other is just 23mph! That is what makes it depressing to me above all else

    Driver wages

Yes it is due to increase in April this year but with some TOC's at least the pay rise is usually late it usually takes several months to be negotiated with the Unions
