Driver wages

Not sure if this is in the correct section, apologies if not.

I have heard that driver wages are due to increase in April this year, can anyone confirm or deny, or even shed light on the situation if applicable to your TOC?.

I’m aware of the issues with SWR for example, with guards and their duties which are being discussed this week I have been told. Highly political i know, just looking for general insight across all TOC’s.

It varies from TOC to TOC (or FOC to FOC).

Just a pointer, the Aslef page is only as up-to-date as the last time it was updated so to speak. I know of a few TOCs where salary info has been incorrect for quite some time.

At the moment it’s a Drivers market. Big industry wide retirement bulge coming up I believe.
Recent new franchise awards have centred on running more trains and services which means more drivers needed.
Increasingly people don’t want to work unsociable hours and all of this is driving up wages.

The Aslef page is up to date enough to show a TOC less than a fortnight old, but the salaries shown therein are still a long time out of date.

Yes it is due to increase in April this year but with some TOC's at least the pay rise is usually late it usually takes several months to be negotiated with the Unions

Franchise extensions also have an impact on this.

Much less likely to get a decent increase agreed if a franchise has been extended for a short period, as was the case at my previous TOC unfortunately.
