The 7 in a row is caused by having to work an extra day and the shifts running from the back end of one week into the front end of the next. The extra day every month probably puts the current salary up to around £58 to £59K.
The salary is by far the best thing about this job, never complained...
I really don't like shift work. Early shifts and night shifts are tough on sleep. I've had migranes on either. So I now do permenant late turns. I don't like lates but it's the only alternative. I'd rather do 9 to 5. Commuting is not an issue to me it is very a short train journey into the...
At Arriva Rail North I'm forced to work up to 7 days in a row! Every 4 weeks there is 7 days in a row that I have to do and I hate it.
You can volunteer to work up to 13 days in a row.
As for the debate on whether it's a good or bad place to work - I'm undecided. There are days when it's awful...
769 has the same coupler as a 319 so can only be rescued by the 769/319 series.
If the couplers were compatible with the 15X series I'm sure a single DMU would have enough pulling power to shift one of these. It would have extremely slow acceleration but it would still move.
On the maintenance...
The 3 car 331's probably have over 300% higher horsepower to weight ratio than the 319.
3,600hp @ rail on a 3-car 331 vs 1,350hp @ rail on a heavier 4-car 319.
In terms of skill level the 319's are not any harder to drive than 331's. They are just much more tedious on stoppers due to the slow...
The project took much longer than expected. The 769 Flex was meant to be in service at the start of the May 2018 timetable on all Wigan NW to Alderley Edge & Stalybridge services.
One thing for sure, this job can be a right slog at times. In the TOC I'm in (Arriva Rail North) I am about to start 7 shifts in a row, starting from today Friday 21st ending Thursday 27th and this will be mostly involving driving commuter trains and 9 hour shifts.
None of this is voluntary...
Even if he did hand his keys back the employer does not know how many keys he's got.
I've got multiple spare driving keys and carriage door access keys.
About time we see a Class 70 pushed to its limits, I always thought these could push the boundaries a bit further than the 59 / 60.
Would like to see a 92 pushed to its max haulage capacity, they always seemed to be used on stuff which they can do easily.
Nuclear flask trains only tend to have 1- 5 wagons so are not very heavy. However they have far more horsepower on the front than the stone trains typically 2x 68!
The Class 60 hauled Oil trains out of Humberside are very heavy and can be 3000-3600 tonnes.
The High Output Ballast Cleaner is...
I believe that if the Group Bourden tool never existed I would have failed. I remember my first attempt at the practice tool online and remember getting about 20 errors and a pretty slow speed!
With practice I got it down to 0-2 errors per session and increased my speed by 50%! My score on the...
Group Bourden is easy if you've practiced it to death, very hard if you haven't, but I think if anyone didn't practice this then they've not tried hard at all to get the job and relying entirely on ability.
Committed Sunday's are the worst of both Worlds.
It always means having to work 7 days in a row when one of these show up, every four weeks.
Usually it means working solidly from Wednesday to the following Tuesday night before being allowed to have a day off.
It's a hard slog but from what...
