I think your interpretation here is actually correct. The reason it is allowed is because (as island said) Deansgate is in the Manchester Stations group.

Permitted routes are totally irrelevant to how virtually all journey planners work; the fares and routeing validity are only calculated at a second stage. There will probably be some other explanation for what you've seen, maybe related to how much slower the journey is via Nottingham.

Oh I agree totally. My Mum had a new fibre line installed and was simply told her old phone extensions would not work any more. I got them working with the help of that video but was quite shocked at the misinformation that is being given out that it's not possible.

You can connect the extension wiring into the VOIP router and then they will work again - this video explains it quite well

To be precise, the restriction applies on services departing after 16:00 and before 18:30, i.e. 16:01 to 18:29. So you could use a train departing as late as 16:00.
