BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Can you share a screenshot? It should be £12 by default (unless you're searching on-the-day after 10am) and you need to click to confirm you're travelling after 10am to select the cheaper price:

Railcard minimum fares incorrectly applying over Summer

As far as I remember, in the fares data the restriction dates don't include a year, only day and month. And since the start of July and end of August fall on the same dates each year ;) it's actually surprising that it needs to be updated. Maybe the records have been accidentally deleted?

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Well spotted - this was an oversight when re-writing the home page. Now restored to have separate links for the origins and destinations index.

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

It's something Cloudflare's algorithm chose to do automatically - my best guess was there was a big spike in bot traffic and it decided to add extra verification for everyone, or something like that. Seems to be mostly fixed today though, and I didn't change anything!

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

It's a fair point that the mobile layout was a bit too "spacious" - not what you really want on a small screen. I've adjusted it a bit: Before: After:

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Yes GooglePay support is currently in progress. I accept the point about the BUY button being "loud" in simple query mode but I did want it to be prominent! Apart from that the main UI has hardly changed - except on mobile where it was too wide in many cases, so the information is now spread...

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Yes, PlusBus is coming soon; most of the work for it is already done. I also intend to add a Quickfare feature so you can buy your most commonly-used tickets with just a couple of clicks/taps, kind of like a TVM.

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Well it's not doing anything you can't do on a traditional TVM! That was kind of my aim, to bring that simple, easy-to-use interface into the internet age. (Admittedly it's only easy-to-use if you're already familiar with the BR Fares site.)

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

It does not need to be able to find a matching itinerary to sell you a fare. Of course you should check yourself trains are running! But it should be particularly useful for fares like Manchester to Euston TfW & LNR only or Liverpool to Brighton LNR & Southern only, which are hard to find in...

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Just refresh the page - it should work eventually. There's some stale JavaScript (I'm also pushing an update to fix this too).

    BR Fares

I made a change earlier in the week such that (assuming you enter your query details and hit "Query Fares" in less than 30 seconds), any iOS "freeze" should happen at the "Loading fares.." stage - and thus hopefully be much less annoying. If anybody who reported a problem previously has a...

    BR Fares

This is a great bug report and explains the problem really well; thanks a lot @bakerstreet. The 20-30s delay you mentioned certainly is not expected. I think Cloudflare must be finding something suspicious about your browser/connection and running a very thorough check; the check should take a...

    BR Fares

Can you describe what's wrong in a bit more detail? It's possible there could be a browser incompatibility with the Cloudflare Turnstile anti-bot check that I (unfortunately) had to add a few months ago.

Restrictions against changing route whilst enroute

The usual answer is that this is permitted on a season ticket, since it is valid for unlimited journeys over any part of any permitted route. It's not permitted on a single or return ticket but as hinted above, the enforceability of that might vary.

    Fares to luton airport

Checking my flight records, it was definitely still there on 15 December 2024 Check the years! It was one year ago ;) Correct Maybe that is even a clue as to why it's the way it is - maybe TfL can adjust the maximum fare charged from different stations through some admin interface without...

    Special Offers Discussion

If you select Fares Period "From 13 Jan 26" you can see the prices of the sale fares. But that is a separate thing from availability being released in the reservations system.

Train joining portions at two different stations (timetable data geekery)

I came across this TPE train with an extremely unusual join/divide pattern, because it was triggering a 12-year old bug in the BR Times source code. In fact there is only a single train in the current timetable that shows joins in two different places. It runs on Fridays only: The 21:00 from...

    Impossible to buy advertised fare?

Neither can you get that price using contactless, as the screenshot indicated. But it is not surprising for NRE to be so misleading.

    Senior Rail Card Restrictions. (Query)

Yes that is true. At least, journey planners generally implement it as an exception to that "morning peak rule", although not sure if it is written down anywhere.

Financial Times article about Rail Fares

There was a reasonably good article about rail fares in the Financial Times a couple of weeks ago. The main thrust was about the massive drop in season ticket sales since the pandemic, with quite a lot of data (from ORR and BR Fares, with credit) and charts showing how seasons are not the best...
