It’s obvious a distinction is in use at Edinburgh Waverley for some services as they announce the destinations of Airdrie/Bathgate services as “Helensburgh Central/Milngavie via Glasgow Queen Street low level”. Yet there are no other routes to the ultimate destinations.
I’m sure these things happen, but with 365 days in the year I’m cynical why it appeared today.
The more cynical part of me wonders if the journalist and trader are known to each other.
The confusion could be worse at Haymarket during disruption where there’s as little as 3 minutes between the timetabled departures to Queen Street, sometimes at the same platform too.
It may have been like that for years, and yes regular commuters will be fine. However those taking irregular journeys, and during periods of extended delays and cancellations it’s inevitably going to go badly.
I say this as someone who regularly sees the confusion at Platform 9 at Queen Street...
I think at the time the restriction was in cab CCTV not available on the other 20m units (320, 318) to allow DOO at the new stations. I could be wrong though.
Almost every single 334 is required to run the Helensburgh/Edinburgh and Milngavie/Edinburgh service at as close to 6 carriages all day, with no other unit cleared for the Airdrie to Uphall stretch in service.
You see the odd one running Airdrie/Balloch and Dumbarton/Cumbernauld, but to move...
In Scotrail-land this is common because “skip stopping” was complained about by passengers across the network and that is now a performance measure they are compared against.
So now they just cancel after a point and run empty to the destination anyway.
Meaning we are getting no service at...
Okay, if the infrastructure was designed in a way that due to unforeseen circumstances derails a train within it's operational specification then surely that's a flaw?
99% of the public who aren't interested in railways will chalk this up to the driver on the basis of the headlines.
I don't think the individual who started on the point claims the driver isn't worthy of publicity in his own right for his own issues.
However, many will now chalk this derailment up as dealt with and skimming newspaper headlines assume that the driver was to blame for the incident.
It's not...
If the 1745 departure time (7L on RTT) was recording the front half heading west then the next eastbound service appears to have been 2H18 which lost 17 minutes between Bathgate and Livingston North (both to the west of the incident).
I suppose the real concern is could it have happened at a...
I doubt I’m bringing much insight but in my experience on that route trains tend to remain in the same formation throughout the day.
Milngavie - Edinburgh services form Edinburgh to Helensburgh and vice versa.
It’s possible (I wouldn’t say likely) that there was no member of staff on either...
If the worst happens I can’t see them moving 334s and short forming Airdrie - Balloch. The latter probably yes but not both.
Almost all trains on E-G via Airdrie/Bathgate having six carriages is the standard line on Scotrail’s twitter if there are problems or short forming on the Falkirk High line.
I suspect you can’t answer but are we looking at days/weeks or weeks/months?
Also are you aware if the ECS run in post 3100 was a 385?
