Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

As things stand yes but the timetable is incomplete and it's the extra services that are causing the issue as they have routed too many trains on the slow line and now realised that it's not going to work on GN. In fact many scoffed day 24TPH through the core, the challenge is actually...

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Yet more 313 failures this morning. How can the GN timetable be made to work if more sem-fast paths use the slow and the 313's are failing or more usually late due to their loading and slow acceleration. And to see that the surplus 365's have gone to Ely and into storage rather that replace the...

    GTR 365 to storage

Why aren't the surplus 365's being retained for some of the current six car semi fast 313 services? E.g the 07.20 Letchworth to KGX? That train is usually full and standing by Hatfield. Seems odd to put units in storage when GN can't meet the demand for seats. Likewise in the new timetable/work...

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

The reality of the mean failure rate of the 313 is what has caused the issue. Poor planning now undermined by 42 year old stock failing most days. I disagree, the plan was over optimistic and it's time to think again.

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Isn't the delay to timetable release clearly down to the timetable 'maths' not adding up. With Class 313 trains still in play it simply won't work. The semi-fasts aren't showing as that are routed on the slow lines and the delays that will immediate occur will likely mean most journeys will be...

    ECML 'slow' line speed?

With the southern end of the ECML about to get considerably busier does that mean the slow lines will be upgraded to allow trains to run faster and hopefully avoid the current pain caused by the 313 units and there pedestrian top speed and acceleration once the 717's arrive? What is the current...

Northern City Line not fit for purpose

Certainly not just the appearance although it is dire and Old Street is one of the most dark and depressing stations on the entire network. The key issue is reliability, you have 43 year old stock running on two slow lines that are undermined by all manner of failures particularly when it's...

Northern City Line not fit for purpose

Noted, so any linking would be impossible? Ok so what other options are there or are you suggesting Moorgate will NEVER lend itself to any underground improvement?

Northern City Line not fit for purpose

The Crossrail project should have been scoped to include the tunnel work to expand Moorgate GNE and provide at least one more platform, or linking it to whatever is left of the original TL platforms.

Northern City Line not fit for purpose

This week has proved yet again that the line into Moorgate is simply not up to the required standards to run a modern railway. The Class 313 is going but is the infrastructure? The signalling has to be the most unreliable on the entire network. Any slight change in weather and the signalling...

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Assuming these WGC-KGX services do materialise then Hatfield gets a significant boost in capacity to KGX. Presently Hatfield has three trains in the main morning peak reaching KGX before 9.00. From May that increases with fasts and semi-fasts available. What seats will be available on the...

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Does anyone have a copy of the draft timetable to confirm where the missing KGX-WGC and vice paths fit in during the peaks?
  13. D

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Still missing the semi-fasts peaks from KGX to WGC and the Letchworth to KGX services. Assuming these haven't been removed permanently as if so that is a huge drop in capacity. In fact the ways it looks KGX to WGC in peak looks like two trains per hour from Kings Cross. That surely can't be...

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Isn't the answer to arrive ahead of time rather than arrive within seconds of departure time? I can't believe some people are unhappy about the 'threat' of trains running on time. Just get out of bed a few minutes earlier.

The Sunday Times: 'Ironing board' seats

The country were misled into voting for generational austerity in June 2016. If you stand for what Brexit proposed then it has to have consequences somewhere. So hard train seats and a lack of nurses to make your final days bearable are two such consequences that I suspect people will one day...

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Why won't you change at Finsbury Park if using the core this will be quicker than walking between stations.
  17. D

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

How will you change at KGX if the trains don't go there?

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

Where precisely is that five minutes being lost?
  19. D

Great Northern and Thameslink May 18 service changes

How many 20 minutes WGC to KGX (or vice) are there today? Hatfield currently has one fast train in the morning, the 7.32. From May 2018 Hatfield gets four services in the peak? So WGC does worse from May as all it's services now stop at HAT.

Can GTR TL run the new GN timetable with 313's still hanging on?

Yet another 313 failure screwing up services this morning. Why weren't the 717's ordered to arrive at the same time as the 700's and in time for the new May timetable? A slow running 313 stuck in front of a 700 is going to cause chaos.
