Railway programmes are pretty specialised and this is on at peak time so naturally has to appeal to a fairly broad audience. It would have been nice to see more of the route but I found it entertaining.
Well it seems Desiros have a reputation of being overly heavy and causing excess track wear etc although looking it seems for a 4 car 377 and 450 the 377 is 3 tons heavier (173 against 170.) I find the ride quality of the Desiros to be a lot smoother, not much noticing bumps whereas in the 377s...
I have learned to check the PI screens before touching in and realising it's a Sunday. 1tph isn't worth it for a journey of about 1.5 miles.
On the suburban services they are seemingly non existant at all times of day and there are many stations without barriers.
Well it was 2-6 in this case which I worked out after a bit of head scratching as to why it had capped so low. I loaded the 16-25 on to the Oyster yesterday and beforehand it was as far as I knew only possible to buy an all zones travelcard with it. This is going to reduce my local travel costs...
It appears that not just the Zone 1-6 travelcard is allowed with a 16-25 on Oyster now. Today I mysteriously ended up with a cap of £3.35 after a local tube journey and two bus journeys and the TFL site has changed, explaining that it must have been a Zone 2-6 travelcard...
I pretty much agree with mumrar's ideas although there would need to be easements for remote places with infrequent services where the next train may be 4 hours away, also for tourist. These places benefit from having cheap fares in the peak where it will also not be as busy as with commuter...
I agree with this post, the value of the tickets from Swindon eastbound is poor as there aren't day return tickets as there are westbound to Bristol and Cardiff and to go eastbound is simply unaffordable at peak times. It is criminal how fares have been made more expensive in the name of...
Note that if you specify via Lincoln, you can make journeys from London via the joint line with AP tickets. They seem to have a reasonable avaliability, I got London - Cleethorpes via PBO, LCN and DON last year fairly near to the time of travel cheaply.
A note on Clapham Junction, the next stop down on the Windsor Lines, Queenstown Road Battersea has about 10tph passing through, many not stopping and a view towards the Junction as it's so close. At CLJ my favourite platforms are 13 and 14. The up end is tranquil at rush hour and I comfortably...
I'd say the Class 91 + MK4 combo, these are past 15 years getting on 20 old now and still IMO offer the greatest comfort from a passenger perspective. Sensibly designed interiors and the opportunity for flexible train lengths and the locos could be used for freight although this wasn't used...
Hail Death, Yuletide greetings.
I believe that Longcross was used a lot more about 4 or 5 years ago as the BBC filmed a TV series there for a time. It may explain why the station has PIS facilities and is in relatively good nick considering it gets very little usage and I've yet to...
SWT don't, I've seen many posters with the cost of fare evasion added up like you did mounting to several hundreds of pounds. Not sure if I've seen any other TOCs do the same apart from Merseyrail.
It's a very small city, has one railway station and is on a dual track mainline. Two TOCs operate services stopping there, this used to be three until very recently. A branch line starts at the station going in the down direction and the station is at the end of a viaduct.
