We did a trip in the 1990's, but this was some sort of promotion or special bus ticket. Can't remember the finer details, but it was service train Inverness-Truro then bought a ticket at Truro for a bus trip including a glass factory and John O'Groats, returning from Wick.

er yes (apart from Sunday of course) but the point being using the current timetables you can plan a journey without having a 1-minute connection, or a 29-minute wait for a Bradford train eg.

Bradford's City Bus is no more. Following the ending of funding, the local LOT company ran it as a commercial route, charging most passengers £1, but they went bust and no one was willing to take it on.

A previous journey from Málaga to Antequera with one change involved a separate ticket for each leg. Think you need a ticket for each train, including reservation, no standing allowed, so if it's full, you can't get on.
