    End of Steam

Thanks for the above, Spamcan81 Also local to Shipley, April 1984 saw the reopened Saltaire station served by a steam train for one day only. There was a regular service throughout the day, Bradford Forster Square to Keighley, calling at Saltaire (think it also called at Bingley and...

    Czech Republic

Liberec has two gauges for their tramways. Olomouc is a pleasant small town. There are many interesting secondary routes throughout the country, but you may need a timetable as some have a very limited service. Sent from my 4009X using Tapatalk

    End of Steam

During my time it's always been diesel operated (the diesel shunter looked a bit like a steam shunter so could easily be mistaken). [emoji1] But I have a feeling there was a steam shunter *parked* there in the late 70s, before they got a new diesel one and parked the old one where the loco was...

    First Leeds's Streetdecks

There will be some going to Bradford depôt to operate a revamped X6 service (every 10 mins. Bradford to Leeds) with a new livery? Some to Bramley for the new 72 service. Some to run on the local Leeds 42 service Sent from my 4009X using Tapatalk

    Zugspitze

Was in Garmisch one December, a few years ago. Due to bad weather the day before, the Elbsee cable car and trails were closed but thankfully the train was running. The level portion at "ground level" is part of the local transport system, with normal fares. There is a premium to travel upwards...

Leeds station to be ticket holders only midnight - 5:30am

Leeds local bus station now closes at 23:30 (presumably the coach station is still open). Bradford Interchange closes at 01:30 with coaches using Hall Ings after this time. Sent from my 4009X using Tapatalk

    Travelling Italy

Have been to Italy a few times, mainly using local trains, the pricing for these is very cheap. Bergamo has some cheap accommodate within walking distance of the airport if you like a walk. It is also a pleasant town that is worth a visit, rather than passing through as I imagine most do on...

    G&WR accommodation

Ah you didn't mention it was for the gala, not that there would be much different. Have never stayed anywhere near, has been near GCHQ or in Gloucester. Also nor many recommend pubs in Cheltenham (many closed). Sent from my 4009X using Tapatalk

Very-trivial trivia item: Stations on a Monopoly board

It was an American invention, actually inventor Charles Darrow stole the idea from an earlier, patented game called the landlord's game from 1906 (if you're in Baden-Baden the next few weeks it is on show in the local museum). The British edition was originally manufactured by Waddington's of...

    Bratislava to Budapest Jan 2017

Have done a journey between the two cities (twice), but not as straightforward as you might think! I'll pop the finer details on when I've time, but basic details here: Bratislava - Miskolc - Debrecen - Budapest. also Bratislava - Esztergom - Vács - Budapest. Obviously taking a few...

Halifax to Leeds now with 'via Bradford' restriction

I am very surprised at this. Other tickets in the area I have noticed. Bradford to Huddersfield has no 'direct' fare, only the general one permitted via Leeds. Bradford to Wakefield has a 'direct' fare, 20 p cheaper! presumably for the Grand Central trains (I don't remember a fare available...

    Northern May Timetables

A quick check and it appears to be the same timetable, with the stops at Apperley Bridge, Kirkstall Forge and Low Moor inserted. The new diagrams/timetables had already started on 1 April. I'm guessing that there won't be any changes until December 2017.
