S Stock feels dated despite age

I agree, I think the 1962 to 1992 stock transition probably felt bigger, given the state of every other stock at the time. As I was saying, I think technologically, the 24 stock is one of the biggest transformations, perhaps up there with the S stock vs A Stock, but the 1992 stock probably wins...

S Stock feels dated despite age

I think it's the fact that the 1973 stock had such a good refurbishment that the step change between that and what will be the 24 stock, is somewhat understated aesthetically - and at the end of the day, this is probably the main thing that is noticed by the customer. The interiors of the 73...

    Track fault Baker Street (MET)

Do we know what the service being run is in tph?

    Track fault Baker Street (MET)

Until you build passing loops or quadruple the line at the intermediate stations between Marylebone and South Ruislip, you cannot run much more than a hourly service, which I don't think would be worth it anyway from their perspective. Agree that a weekend service is needed. Not sure why this...

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

Have more class 450s been deployed on the usual 455 diagrams? I've noticed them more on the metro routes which were historically only ever 455, and sometimes, 458

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

Sorry, should have been clearer, I meant departing waterloo in the direction of the Reading line (which I know is partly closed right now)

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

Does anyone know if 455s will be on any Feltham line diagrams this evening after 1700/1730?

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Excuse me if this has probably been discussed several times but are there any plans to introduce some form of automated signalling (as done on various lines of the London Underground)? I understand the reason it was not done so far was because the old trains were never designed for ATO, but the...

S Stock feels dated despite age

The Metropolitan line may be outside for much of the journey but I'm pretty sure the other lines are also exposed to the elements almost just as much

S Stock feels dated despite age

The S8s have been in service for 14-15 years now. The S7s are anything between 8-13 years. The S8s exteriors generally look slightly less "shiny" compared to the S7s, especially those which entered service later on. Pretty sure some of the S7s were entering service in 2017.

S Stock feels dated despite age

I disagree, the interiors do not feel dated to that extent. Asides from the obvious give away of using DMIs (which themselves feel more late 2000s) instead of LED screens, they otherwise feel modern. Yes the lighting should have been the cool white LEDs instead of warm, but I thought these were...

Why is the LUL roundel not more prominently displayed?

For some strange reason, Stratford Central line platforms do not feature the tfl station text roundels but the Jubilee line platforms do! Harrow and Wealdstone I believe also does not have the roundels

Why did they have the DLR , rather than extend the Underground/overground

Excellent history lesson there. May I ask, why would there be a need to extend to Kings Cross/Euston? These lines already connect to the Elizabeth Line at Farringdon and TCR which are a few stops further? Or are we specifically talking about traffic originating at Euston/Kings Cross (or traffic...

Why do DLR station platforms not feature standard tfl roundels?

At this stage, it is probably cost saving. Although to be honest, it may be intentional anyway: In train/tram land, the roundal format is used for heavy rail services, (LU, LO, EL) whereas the hung board format are for light rail (DLR, Trams)

    DLR B23 Stock (CAF Inneo)

Slightly off topic but related to the future. As the B07s are being retained, what is the plan for these? Will they remain as they are or will they be relivered (and potentially refurbished) to match the b23s? Is anything official yet? There is a risk that once the b23s are common sight across...

Why do DLR station platforms not feature standard tfl roundels?

Sorry if i'm not being clear but what you have stated is exactly the difference. There are no large enamel roundels on their own, SOLO, with the name of the station on the blue bar. I am aware the DLR has roundels in some form. It does not have them with the station name in between when it...

    1973 stock withdrawal

Sort of off topic but I had a query regarding when these trains were refurbished: As those who are familiar with the stock all know, when the 73ts doors close, there is a distinct air whoosh/rush sound just before the doors actually close following the chimes sounding. Were the door...

Why do DLR station platforms not feature standard tfl roundels?

And since TFL adopted the family of roundels, the only thing they didn't do was provide the stations with platform roundels.

    Why 1973 Stock first?

By the point of retirement of the 2009 stock, assuming it's retired early and in line with the 95/96ts, I am not really sure there would be any further use for them (if the 72s and 92s are already gone by then). When I say same stock, I meant variant of the 24ts, like how the S Stock has variants.
