(Trivia) When is a London Underground train a train, and when is it a service?

One thing I never understood was why the A stock, despite being around for a significant period of time following the introduction of announcements, was never given automated audible announcements following their refurbishment

Met line - Northwick Park announcement at Neasden

So just quickly on this point, if the Met did not have this "historical anomaly", how would it be sign posted?

Met line - Northwick Park announcement at Neasden

I was under the impression that the stations Great portland street - Aldgate are Eastbound/Westbound? The Met main being Northbound/Southbound makes sense, irrespective of the all day running to Aldgate, as it follows a North/South ish sort of alignment, from Baker Street onwards.

Met line - Northwick Park announcement at Neasden

It's not a particular train. I have been on multiple which have done this

Met line - Northwick Park announcement at Neasden

I had raised this question months back, since the area got resignalled and got no answer. It seems to happen on southbound fast/semi fast trains. I wonder if someone can finally shed light on this

Trivia: Stations that still have BR era (or older) signage?

Ahhh point being I did not realise the new johnston font had been around since 1983, since asking for the earliest examples of any pictures. As for Johnston 100, I am not sure if I would be able to tell the differences between that and new Johnston

Trivia: Stations that still have BR era (or older) signage?

I am struggling to believe this is 50 years old in 2029! So do we have any examples of the first use of these signs?

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

I would expect that perhaps a refresh could be done. Light and cheap though

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

Agreed. But Chiltern seem to leave their 165s very unloved, compared to the rest of the fleet, despite the 165s being the oldest and most in need of a refurb

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

Is there a reason that the 168 livery has changed a few times now but the 165 livery still remains the same, since the Chiltern livery (on top of that, no refurbishment since the original one in the early 2000s)?

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

Ahhh didn't expect a 376 to down the pecking order, below a networker! In particular because the 376s are being refreshed

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

What is the general consensus from a SE metro user when a 707 turns up on a service instead of a 465/466? Do we anticipate the longer distance electrostar (375/377) fleet being used on metro services at some point?

    South Kensington upgrade going ahead

Yes agreed, at concourse level, advertise the Eastbound as being on the New platform. The existing platform would then serve as alighting only (although you could exit on either side anyway)

Slow stretch on the Metropolitan line

So this is my take on things since the area was re signalled (happy to be corrected by the experts): The southbound journey between Finchley and Baker St is quicker, and generally runs to full line speed. The Northbound is slower than under pre CBTC. I don't get why this has not been addressed...

    South Kensington upgrade going ahead

Interesting, it could work as you would still have more room for Eastbound passengers compared to present

    South Kensington upgrade going ahead

So with bringing the former Eastbound platform into use, will the existing track be moved so its closer to the disused platform or will the disused platform be extended to meet the current track? The platform at present looks a little too narrow/small to function as the sole Eastbound caterer...

Trivia: Stations that still have BR era (or older) signage?

The thing which I've always found fascinating, or possibly confused about is the fact that the Southbound platform 2 British Rail (think it's also on the northbound platform 1 too) sign at harrow on the hill appears to be in the modern/current day style of tfl signage?! But British rail ceased...

    Could Northern get additional stock?

Why aren't Northern taking on any withdrawn 150s from TFW? Surely this would help to double up or even triple up units

S Stock feels dated despite age

This fluorescent bulb ban came in around 2023, so in the long term, what will be the plan? Will they just wait until there are a considerable amount of bulbs which have blown before deciding to go with a fleet wide replacement? (I am thinking 1972 stock pre LED fitting when you would see a...
